I'm hoping all this whining about cutting Seraphin looks sillier than it does now.
Until I see some combination of Sabonis/Leaf/Ike get more minutes and see what we do with AlJeff..... I'm reserving judgement about this move. There is as much of a chance that Nate gives AlJeff those Seraphin minutes instead of giving them to Ike. I mean, how often does a 2nd round rookie get regular rotational minutes ( even is it is 10 mpg )?

You're right. Nate would probably give Ike's minutes to Al if it's up to him. But you're missing something.

There is no chance in hell Al Jefferson plays 82 games. And if Seraphin is there, he gets those minutes. Well now they go to Ike. FO forcing the hand.

That George guy is probably sulking right now - wondering why the Pacers didn't retire his jersey.

I doubt George Hill is too concerned.

Very possible Kevin Seraphin asked the Pacers to not pick up his option. Choosing instead to sign a larger contract for more years and fewer games in Europe

This is what I was thinking too, don't think I posted it though. Move was probably mutual, and probably Serpahin wanting it more. Little less than $8 million in cap space ... ready to see another move.

Asking to be cut to sign somewhere else was one of the first thoughts that came to my mind, it was the only logical conclusion I could come to. It is a bummer because he could have been a valuable locker room presence. Hopefully it does result in more opportunity for the younger players.

We went from too many big guys to being one short. Probably should have kept Christmas or Allen. Might have if Seraphin did asked to be released and he knew earlier. Now we rely on Big Al and a 2nd round big with a knee issue as the back-up 5. Should have signed Ike to a two-way and kept Christmas.

Thought maybe if another deal isn't done maybe we could bring Whit back on a one year cheap deal emergency but he's heading to Russia

Christmas, Niang, and Allen are all still available. Since no one has grabbed any of them, I don't see how cutting them could be seen as a mistake. I bet we could re-sign any of the 3 on a non-gauranteed minimum contract if we felt the need.

Why are people so quick to call a disagreement "silly whining"?

When people say "the front office is the worst" because freaking Seraphin was cut, I think what I said qualifies.

Only for the people who actually said that. It doesn't apply for everyone else who disagreed with the move.

You'll find people who have knee-jerk reactions to every move in every basketball forum. PD is no stranger to them. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Should we judge everyone else based on those knee-jerk reactions? Nope. We can only really judge people based on what they said. Generalizing them and putting to camps simply because they happened to be pro or against a particular move is not the way to go.

What did this have to do with my post? I didn't generalize anything, if you weren't whining about how stupid the front office is I wasn't talking about you.

The knee jerk reaction may be thinking my post applied to people who hoped we could keep Seraphin, considering I said in this thread I liked him.

Nah, I don't think so. Those are run of the mill guys--you can replace their meager production/warm bodies on the bench for any G-League schmuck. We've had our looks at those guys (Whittington, too). If we need an extra body, just take a look at a guy in the G-League. Or if we are really lucky and he's healthy, toss some minutes Anigbogu's way.

I can't blame Seraphin for wanting to go to Barcelona. Less games, probably the same amount of money, beautiful city, more French speakers and a very French culture in that area in general. I'm sure he will feel at home there and be one of the best Euroleague players.

Barcelona is an awesome city! Definitely one of my favorites (up there with Montreal in terms of my favorite big cities I've visited)

I've been thinking about it a lot, and I think the fact that we are upset Kevin Seraphin was cut goes to show how awful last year was. He was a highlight on that team because he actually tried when on the court. The team was so lackadaisical last year, I am looking forward to a team with some fire.

Seraphine already had to work himself above T. Young for playing time. So, with the addition of Bogdanovic and Sabonis, I can certainly see why he'd want to sign overseas. Besides, I remember him saying how much he loved Euro-ball and how it was so much different than playing in the NBA. So, maybe these new acquisitions were like the writing on the wall to push him out.

Well, if you're a believer in Lance, hopefully whatever he did for Kevin will transfer over to our current bigs.

We cut a guy who isn't even going to be in the league next season. Seriously, 0 NBA teams even kicked the tires on him. If it's not silly to complain about that, then what the hell is silly?
