Opening minutes for Sabonis at backup center? Maybe?
Sabonis can still get minutes as the backup Center....regardless of whether Seraphin or AlJeff is here.

With 13 players under contract surely a move is coming.

They've been saying that about him since he got drafted. Eventually, reality sets in.

I agree. The Pacers gave him a shot, but he just seemed to be a tweener. Not really quick enough to guard the 4 and too short to be an effective 5. Good team mate though. He will be missed that way, I think.

I'm sorry I missed this...is Lavoy Allen still a Pacer?

Well, he was the one of the last guys signed last year or else he wouldn't have even been in the NBA. Then he gets cut for minor savings the next offseason. I'd call that the very definition of a fringe roster player.
He may have been one of the last guys signed but he did outplay the player ahead of him on the depth chart and rightfully played over him in the playoffs. Will waiving Seraphin make or break the team? Of course not. I'd like to think that no one is suggesting that.

But it just doesn't strike me as a good move, you know. It seems similar to not picking up Solo's QO. When you have a player that can give you solid minutes on the cheap then you should keep him. The only reasoning I can see behind the move is that it was made to facilitate a future move. If that's the case then it should be judged based on whether that future move is good or not. But other than that, I really don't see any other reason for waiving him.

Again, it's not a big deal but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Seraphin was capable of giving good spot minutes & contributing / not sucking every time he stepped on the floor, but as someone mentioned earlier, he's just a guy. Sabonis is good. He's going to end up being a fan favorite & maybe even the best player in the Vic/Sabonis deal. Sabonis should start from day 1 but if not he better see good minutes...which I imagine he will since they kept him off the Lithuania summer team or whatever it was & they've gotten rid of Seraphin, other bigs

It's nice to see KP is still taking out the trash & getting rid of guys who just aren't good enough. We don't need those kind of guys. We need guys who can play.

Rodney Stuckey - late last season
    Monta Ellis
    Rakeem Christmas
    Lavoy Allen
    Georges Niang
    Kevin Seraphin

Won't be missed...the only player from that list that might is Serpahin but I like to think they've got a plan.

The plan may be to play the young guys and let the record fall where it may.

Some may not know this, but Seraphins adjusted per 36 numbers were far better than Myles. He simply was more effective. Why he was moved I really don't know. I don't think we have enough size without him and I do NOT want AlJeff to step on the floor.

That may well be the strategy. If so, why not trade Collison for a youngster? Move Thad ASAP.

If this is to have a 3-man rotation of Young, Turner, and Sabonis, with Sabonis splitting time at 5 and 4, that's fine by me. But Seraphin was a pretty decent deal for what he could do at that price range.

We have 2 open roster spots and some cap room, so I wouldn't rule out another move, but I have no idea on that.

Can't trade Collison until December 15th. I am sure Collison will be moved by the deadline if Cory starts over him. Right now, it seems KP covets Cory for the long term future. Our point guard position is a shambles yet again. Cory is a good player but starting PG in the long term like years and years from now? Not sure. I do feel sorry for Jeff Teague though, people are already assuming he'll be dealt for Kyrie once the moratorium passes (December 15th again). Looks like he jumped ship too soon.

Sad he's gone. I really thought he improved last year and fully expected him to be a solid backup for us this year. Also liked his attitude and thought it would fit well with the new and young players.

There is probably more than meets the eye here. Pritchard isn't dumb to Seraphin's production on a great contract.

We've been undecided about keeping him for weeks. I'm also assuming he was thinking about going overseas.

    Darren Collison / Cory Joseph
    Victory Oladipo / Lance Stephenson
Bojan Bogdanovic / Glenn Robinson III
    Thad Young / Domas Sabonis
Myles Turner / Ike Anibogu / Al Jefferson

I'm still liking this team. That's going to be a playoff team in the east...I wanna see us add Tony Allen & maybe we can scare a team in the playoffs.

I really hope that seraphin wanted to go to Barcelona, that would be the only reason to let him go.

you know, that's not a good reason, either. are the Pacers running a charity or what? why not tell him, great, you can go next year after your contract is up? It's like a mini-PG situation, lol.

It makes absolute no sense to trade Collison after just signing him. Why on earth would we trade him right after signing him?

The timing is likely a reason given that he has to be picked up by tomorrow. I suspect that this is the case while giving them an extra roster space to take on an extra Player in a trade. Assuming that a Contract is sent out ( likely Thad who has a Player Option that he won't likely take ) while having extra salary cap space to absorb more Salary....I can see the need to have an extra space in a 1 for 2 type deal.

It doesn't make a massive amount of sense financially but if we're opening on progressing the young guys then there is some thinking behind it. Sabonis and Leaf will both be fighting each other for minutes a bit too heavily with how many bigs we had and something had to give. Unfortunately Al is just too expensive to waive and in a year when we're just starting to rebuild again it's probably better to let him sit and allow the two young guys to get as many minutes as they can handle.

Not a fan of the move but I can make some sense of it. Hope he finds a good spot. Has been decent.

There was always something odd about the entire Seraphin and playing time last season to me. When he played it seemed to me like he either did a respectable job or down towards the end he would do a good job (once he was paired with Lance). But for whatever reason for the majority of the season he could not crack the normal rotation. I mean he only played in 49 games and only for about eleven min. a game.

Not sure if he wasn't defending the way Nate wanted or something but it just never made a lot of sense to me as it seemed like more often than not he outplayed LaVoy Allen.

Him getting cut doesn't really surprise me but just the way he tenure here occurred did kind of surprise me.
