There was always something odd about the entire Seraphin and playing time last season to me. When he played it seemed to me like he either did a respectable job or down towards the end he would do a good job (once he was paired with Lance). But for whatever reason for the majority of the season he could not crack the normal rotation. I mean he only played in 49 games and only for about eleven min. a game.

Not sure if he wasn't defending the way Nate wanted or something but it just never made a lot of sense to me as it seemed like more often than not he outplayed LaVoy Allen.

Him getting cut doesn't really surprise me but just the way he tenure here occurred did kind of surprise me.
They were trying to give the 10 million dollar man (AlJeff) every chance to succeed...but when the chips were down, they went with Seraphin...I don't think it's that complicated what Nate did...Pritchard's move here is what's off

We had nobody to pair with him was the problem. The double plodder/center lineups were just painful to watch. Al/Lavoy, Seraphin/Lavoy, disgusting. One of Bird's mistakes.

Seraphin was our 2nd best rim protector.

We're going to make another move or two, it will be interesting to see what we do.

If there's not a trade coming, then Ike better bring the heat or else this makes 0 sense.

I'm still liking this team. That's going to be a playoff team in the east...I wanna see us add Tony Allen & maybe we can scare a team in the playoffs.
We could sneak into the playoffs, but tough to imagine we could scare: Cleveland, Milwaukee, Boston, Washington or Toronto. Given if we do get in we'll be a 6-8 seed, we'll most definitely match up with one of those 5 teams. Which of those do you think we'd have a chance to scare in a series?

Really went a long way in the "we want to play faster" mantra that Larry trotted out didn't it.

He probably should have started in the playoffs. He outplayed Myles Turner.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia

It's a bit surprising, as Seraphin was our best backup center last year. He also seemed to have great chemistry with Lance in the 2nd unit.

That being said, maybe the Pacers genuinely believe Jefferson will get his a$$ in shape or that Anigbogu is ready for some minutes right off the bat. Both players appear to be a bit of wildcards though, whereas Seraphin was more of the sure thing.

Time will tell. I am banking on KP having good a good reason for waiving him.

Some of the people upset about losing Seraphin also predict we won't be in the playoffs next year. If we were garbage with Seraphin, there is no point to keep him. You give his minutes to your young guys, not to someone who at best figures out how to be a 8-10th on a contender.

Wonder if they'll leave the 2 spots open for training camp out performers that get cut from other teams

I was looking forward to following Seraphin and Lance on social media. I liked Seraphin, thought it was pretty great he'd be #13 this year. But if this allows younger guys more playing time, or it allows us to make another move, then I'm good with it. If Kevin's minutes go to AlJeff, I won't be thrilled. But ultimately, this doesn't move the needle one way or another, and I wish Kevin the best!
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

What a dumbass move that was... dude proved he has good value off the bench, he could have been good trade sweetener for another move. Plus he played well with Lance! Probably one of the few players on the team that got better as the season went along.

We throw away 2nd round picks after one year. And we waive good bench players. Just throwing talent away. But some how Joe Young is still on this team??

Milwaukee, Washington and Toronto and probably Boston. None of those teams are good enough to just run away with a series (I'm unsure about Boston this year. I think the Howard signing might improve them less than we expect). I'm not saying we could play a series with the first three either, but I am saying that IF we make the playoffs, then that means we are good enough to scare the first three.

    .
This is why I can't muster up any semi-strong feelings about this move. He only played 49 games, he didn't play a ton of minutes, and he came into the season in terrible shape. It took him a good half the season to get into game shape. I think that was also Al's plan, but he kept getting hurt and eating $150 worth of Cheesecake Factory every day and it never happened. He did some nice things, seemed to have good chemistry with Lance, but he's kind of a huge black hole on offense once he gets the ball. If we sustain some injuries with the Myles/Sabonis/Leaf triumvirate, I suspect we will just sign a few promising G-League bigs and hope one works out.

As of now, this is the first time since 2011-2012 that the Pacers haven't had a French center on their roster for opening day. I take it this means we're trading for Rudy Gobert?

We would get swept by Washington and Boston easily. Milwaukee and Toronto would probably win in 5 games, I could see the Raps sweeping too.

I am surprised by the move, a little disappointed.....but I am fine with it AS LONG as it guarantees more minutes for some combination of Sabonis, Leaf or ( unlikely ) Ike and not a significant # of minutes for AlJeff.

Pacers are going to be bad this season with current roster, Seraphin gets in the way of the young guys developing...makes sense to me, also could be a trade or something.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Boston will most likely win 60 games this year. Of course they will sweep a Dipo/Turner led Pacers team that isn't even going to make the playoffs. You aren't even sure if the team will make the playoffs, but you are certain these teams wouldn't sweep us if we get there. No logic.

Reread what I wrote "I'm not saying we could play a series with the first three either, but I am saying that IF we make the playoffs, then that means we are good enough to scare the first three." So yes, Boston could sweep a non-playoff team. I also said "I'm unsure about Boston this year." they might be really good, especially with Brad as their coach. Either way, who cares if Boston can sweep an eastern bottom feeder? That's a silly discussion.

I am certain that any team good enough to make the playoffs will not be swept by the other teams discussed because they will not be good enough to sweep a playoff team. Just because you don't understand a logical argument doesn't make the argument illogical.

Any chance this means Ike is coming along nicely?

A rotation of Sabonis/Leaf and Turner/Ike is about the best thing ever for a rebuild year.
    Love/Hate series: Ike Anigbogu
If his knee doesn’t hold him back he’ll become the Pacers defensive specialist coming off the bench — la Kevin Seraphin or Lavoy Allen. Funnily enough, Indiana cut both this offseason to make room in a crowded front court for Anigbogu. If he gets healthy there are the minutes for him to prove himself.
    https://8points9seconds.com/2017/08/...-ike-anigbogu/

I'm hoping all this whining about cutting Seraphin looks sillier than it does now.
