Carmelo to Cleveland and Irving to Knicks. Then Cavs will sign Rose

That team would be lucky to be 3rd seed...

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

How bad is it in Cleveland that the Knicks seem a more preferable option?

Unless he feels he needs a big market to up his brand. Playing with LeBron he'll always been in his shadow.

I'm going to be mad if Knicks get more for Melo than what Pacers got for PG

Melo for Kyrie...then he follows LeBron and Paul George to LA.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia

    This is very plausible.

The Cavs may still make the finals with the remaining pieces.

Some of you guys are legitimately mad that Pritchard didn't wait until 3 weeks into free agency to trade Paul George, because a move nobody saw coming just happened, after most all trades and signings have already wrapped up? Whatever floats your boat, I guess....
WTF?! Are you seriously trying to tell me that OKC would have said, "PG for those two role players we offered you before... Too late. No thanks. We don't want to win this year."

You're out of your ever-loving mind if you think OKC would have turned down that offer at any point of the offseason, or at any point before the trade deadline. IDGAF what free agents they brought in, they weren't going to say no to adding Paul George. C'mon man.

It's possible that we wouldn't have been able to get more, but we could have made the same deal.

Turns out we could have gotten more.

Nope. And it's not even that shocking, really. No matter where they go in the NBA, they're going to make several, SEVERAL millions of dollars anyway. At that point, why not just focus on the situation in the league that appeals to you the most, versus one that doesn't but adds more to your already-enormous pile of cash?

If the super max was something crazy like twice the money, then maybe it would keep players home, but these bumps aren't 100% more, it's, what, 25% more, maybe? Or 12.5%?

And when the WORST case scenario is they're going to get paid well over $100,000,000,000 in 4-5 years of time, I can see players choosing their first choice scenario over the extra cash almost every time.

The money for top NBA players is INSANELY good right now, super max or no super max.
Not true, Irving can miss out on 50 million dollars. He'll be leaving money on the table for sure.

It was seriously infuriating knowing that we could have had Foultz if we'd dealt PG when we should have (yes the deadline was the time to deal him, I'm on the record as having said so).

Now, if this CLE/NY thing happens....

To know that we could have had Kyrie (If you want to argue CLE prefers Melo to PG, have at it...) if we hadn't pulled the trigger on OKC's crap offer.... Man, it makes it really hard to stick with this team.

No we could not have had Kyrie. He doesn't want to play here. Most of the top players are not going to play in Indiana.

Why would OKC wait? It makes sense to get PG before training camp started, and get rid of him before OUR season started. Plus, what exactly is THE reason to wait after free agency is over? That seems like a dumbass move to me. The deals for PG were not going to get any better, and no team was going to give up assets for a 3 month rental if PG happened to make it to the trade deadline.

So you KNOW that we could've had fultz or kyrie? If you know that for a fact then you're right it's hard sticking with this team.

Fultz, yes. It's been WIDELY reported by people Woj and Zach Lowe that the Celtics offered at least the Nets 17 pick for George. The uncertainty comes from how much more did they offer. If you want to scream "fake news" at that, there's nothing more I can say.

As for Kyried, you're right I'm speculating here, but I don't think I'm going out on a limb saying the Cavs would prefer PG to Melo. This would have been a perfect match with 2 disgruntled stars wanting out. If you want to say we wouldn't have sent PG to the Cavs, that's fine, but that just makes KP an even bigger idiot.

This! This is the reason to wait. All sorts of things can happen. Injuries. Disgruntled players wanting out. A surprising team becomes a contender. There are countless reasons to wait. There's NO reason to rush.

You seriously think we wouldn't have been able to get a deal at least equal to the one we got between now and the deadline? Of course we could have.

And he's still going to make over 100 million either way, right? That's my point. He's got so much money either way that it's almost inconceivable he would feel the difference.

How do you start LeBron, Melo and Love? How do you convince one of them to come off the bench? Both seem impossible.

Except that it's already reported that Kyrie initially asked to be traded in June before the draft, that we had a deal almost done that involved him, and even then he was going to a 3rd team and not Indiana.

Other than that, if you want to believe the offers were going to get better over time, that's fair enough, but I doubt it and suspect the opposite is true.

If it makes you feel better (probably not?), I do recall reading or hearing from the media that Presti is known for making offers with a time limit attached and that this one was probably another case of it, so Pritchard decided to jump on it since he believed it was the best he was going to get, in his opinion.

So if you feel like you know better, more power to you.

I wish they'd have traded him in February, too, but to be fair to them he was allegedly telling them in private that it was between staying here and going to LA, and that they had a chance to keep him. Pretty much any time a small market team (or theoretically any team) believes they have a chance to keep a guy as talented as Paul George around, they're going to stretch that out as long as they can in a case like that, more than likely. He decided in June it was just going to be the Lakers, not February. Of course a team is going to hold on as long as they can to a talent like PG in that scenario, unless they believed he was lying up until June.

So wait in hopes that a team might get desperate due to an injury...which might not happen until after the season starts? Great plan.

Don't worry Cleveland. You will be picking #1 in the 2019 & 2020 draft and be reloaded again for another LeBron coming home party.

That's his thing. Leaving a team gutted and returning when it is most loaded with assets.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia
