Default The Spurs player you would want on the Pacers?

    Let's do this both ways:

    /stealing from UB/
I am asking which Spurs starter would you want to replace a current Pacers starter. If you could only make one switch what would it be.

Assume, the starting lineup is Tinsley, Jax, Artest, J.O., and I'll let you pick between Jeff or Dale.

    Tinsley or Parker
    Jax or Manu
    Ron or Bowen
    J.O or Duncan
    Jeff/Dale or Mohammed

OK, I'll throw the coaches in here

    Rick or Pop

I need to think about this for a few minutes

Also consider the three guys off the bench: Barry, Horry, and TBD vs. whatever our three guys off the bench in The Finals would be.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Of course it would be cheating to say, "well I'd like TD to play center alongside J.O"

That is not a fair answer.

I'd switch J.O for Duncan. I'm happy with J.O, but Duncan is the best player in the NBA. He is at the top of the pyramid

Definitely take Duncan over JO anyday.

Although Thata a position I think that we are strong at, so I actually think Manu could come in and be a big difference maker for us.

I was veryexcited when the rumors(really unlikely I knew) that there were trade rumors of Manu to the pacers. Although I can not remember for who....

Definitely Tony over Jamaal, and I really like Manu. I don't know about that one though.

Definitely Duncan. JO is great, but Duncan is better.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Manu over Jackson. I'm not down on Jack, it's just that I like what Ginobili brings.

id wanna break the rules as well....duncan for foster/dd....could be fun with a lineup of jo/duncan/artest/jack/tinsley.....

which is what the spurs were thinking when they tried to sign jo a couple years ago...hmmm...duncan/jo/bowen/manu/parker.....that woulda been scary...

if i have to play by the rules.....the upgrade duncan would bring over jo isnt worth it in my eyes...i think manu over jack might be a bit more noticeable...though not much....thats the whole point i think....we match up very well with the spurs....

This one is a lot tougher than picking a Piston.

It's hard to pass on Duncan, because he's a much better team player than JO. He's smarter (better decisions), he's a better passer, a better interior defender, but...

Jeez, I figure the Spurs are individually better than the Pacers at every position but SF. Wow.

It's also hard to pass on Ginobli. Good shooter, good driver, good defender.

Mohammed hits the short jumper and does a great job inside as well.

But I'd still go back to what Duncan could deliver for us in the frontcourt. Someone more reliable than Jermaine in handling and knowing what to do with the entry pass. He has Jermaine's range on his jumper, and plays great defense.

In fact, I think you give the Pacers ANY C/FC frontcourt player that can hit the open jumper, rebound and play great team and man-on defense, and the Pacers immediately become the team to beat.

    Hypothetically,

If JO is a "9" and Duncan is a "10"...

If SJax is a "7" and Manu is a "9"...

If Tinsley is a "7" and Parker is an "8"...

I'm surprised just how many of you would make the slight upgrade of Duncan over JO.

Hey, if I'm starting a team from scratch, Duncan is probably my #1 pick right now... don't get me wrong.

But if I'm looking to the Spurs to upgrade just one position on the Pacers, its got to be in the backcourt...

Come on, Jay, everyone here knows that you would trade Artest for Bowen.

Hey, I'll jockey for the front of the line when we're talking about fans of Ron's "game". I don't even like Bowen's game AND I think he's a punk.

Heh, Duncan, I guess; though, if JO actually learned how to pass out of the DT...

That said, no one else on the Spurs intrigues me in the least.

    Pistons, on the other hand...

Jay, who says you have to replace JERMAINE with Duncan?

    I'd replace Jeff/Dale with Duncan.

You're the one who has said that JO is really our center, anyway. So why not compare funcational position with functional position.

    JO (8) with Mohammed (6)
    Duncan (9) with Dale/Jeff (5)

That makes Duncan a no brainer.

I thought that was UB's rule in the other thread... where we weren't allowed to replace Dale/Jeff with Rasheed (because that would be a no-brainer, too.)

Hey, if we're allowed to do this then its clearly a no-brainer.

Even if I'd secretly consider trading JO for Ginobolli.

I set it up that you had to trade position for position, and that you should not switch any positions. J.O plays the same position ad TD and Sheed. Jeff plays the same position as Ben and Nazr.
Cro tries to play the same position as Horry. Ooops, sorry

    Hey! Watch it now!

    I'm not a cheater. I'm just a non-conforming S.O.B.

Isn't it our generation that emphasizes thinking "outside the box"?

When I see these comparisons it makes me feel even better about the Pacers. We match up pretty well against the best teams in the NBA, so I think its foolish right now to say when we come in next year we aren't top 3 in the league.

That said, I'd take Manu because I think his upside is incredible.

    Eddie Gill for Brent Barry!

Seriously, I'd go along with the Manu crowd. I love his aggressiveness. I've been even more impressed since they tightened the rotation in the finals and he is handling PG responsibilities also.
