Another decent contributor on a short-term deal. If he surprises with great play, re-sign him, and if he is what he is, trade or let him walk. The roster is filling out, I think we're almost done now. Thad is about the only other piece that has potential to change. I won't mind if he stays, but I'd be happy to trade him for a pick.

D.C. and Joseph will have to battle for the starting spot, and that's perfect. GRIII and BoBan probably too, but I think Glen has the advantage there. Sabonis and Leaf will compete for playing time also. Good, let's see who has the talent and the stones to earn their spots, win/losses notwithstanding, and let's go into the next couple years will hungry young players and cap space. Good work, Pritch.
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

If I had to guess, I'd say the Pacers definitely consider Myles and Dipo to be those guys at the 5 and 2.
Yep. Isn't that what Nate said as well? Myles and Dipo are the only locks for a starting position so far.

I think Pacers will probably search out a Thad suitor if can get value on other end and maybe look to bring in another wing. Beyond that, the roster looks pretty good full at each spot.

Pacers went from defensive guys like Teague and Ellis to Joseph and Oladipo. I know we lost PG, but Pritch is def buffing the defense.
We are headed in the right direction!

I can tolerate losing and rebuilding the Team....as long as we try on both ends of the court.

It looks like the "Lance will play the point" was all talk, maybe to give us more leverage in trade talks or something.
Just because a guy is playing as a point, doesn't mean he also has to be a guard. There are some creative lineups the Pacers can put on the floor now.

Yep. I don't know if Nate can coach that style but we definitely have the personnel to be more creative.

I don't disagree, but I think there was a McMillan or Pritchard quote about Lance playing point guard specifically out there, but maybe I'm wrong.

I wonder if Joseph will be a restricted free agent if he opts out next summer?
He's a UFA...he was drafted by the Spurs.

But I assume that the Pacers would have his Bird Rights next season.....so we do not have to use any of our Salary Cap Space to re-sign him.

Yeah, I think it was a comment made in passing a few times as something they wouldn't rule out, and this board has taken it and ran with it. Not that it matters, when Lance is on the floor, he's going to have the ball in his hands more often than not.

Monta was actually better at defending jumpshots last season than Joseph.

I think the only moves to make now are getting rid of players for picks and playing time (Joe Young for a future 2nd rounder or... idk, anything? And Thad for a future 1st). You add another position player and who are you taking time from? And to what purpose?
You keep Thad Young as a vet player at this point. He's a solid player who doesn't mind playing in Indiana.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

Agreed, I think when Lance is on the floor, the offense will be run through him a lot of the time on the perimeter. That's still a bit different from Lance starting 6'5" at point guard, with no other small guard out there, which makes for interesting matchups on both ends. To me with, Collison and Joseph both on the roster, the chances of that happening have become much more slimmer.

No Bird rights, CoJo signed 4 year deal with Raptors as a FA.
Garbage players get 1st round picks, (WTF)! All of the NBA must hate the Pacers! LOL

Joseph's defense in 2015/16 was fantastic though. Not sure why he regressed so much last year on that end.

No, not really. Rebuilding doesn't necessarily involve bottoming out. Rebuilding is about collecting young players and giving them all the playing time that their bodies can handle without caring about how that affects your W/L percentage. This means that you should be fine with whatever result these players can get you which can include everything from bottoming out to making the playoffs. That's what rebuilding is.

Intentionally trying to lose isn't rebuilding. That's tanking. There's a difference between the two. Rebuilding doesn't care about your W/L percentage. Tanking does.
We won't win a ring without top 4 picks. We will just be the same as we have been, except instead of losing to Miami and Cleveland we will be losing to Boston and Philly.

Nope...unless you secretly still want a "tank" job and want to disguise it as "developing the young players".

I love CoJo. Honestly, I think he would have been a better fit last season than Teague.

Easily my favorite backup PG last season. I think he's better than Collison for sure, but you can't stick him out there with Dipo and Lance because of his poor shooting.

In any scenario, this is easily the best PG rotation since Watson was here. I think we're a front court upgrade away from the playoffs.

Seriously, I love this move. I like CoJo the same way I like Workman. I think he's a rich man's Kevin Ollie, if you remember him. He's incredibly solid and smart, and a winning player.

A very underrated aspect of this move: if CoJo starts, Our perimeter defense will be SO much better that Myles Turner won't have to cover, meaning he'll be in much better position, meaning our (and his) rebounding percentage will have a significant increase.

Basically, we shore up some of our rebounding by getting a strong defensive backcourt.
