    Default Rumour about Artest/Miami

Ok it is time the Spurs closed out these finals, I get sleep deprivation this way, darned games dont end till bleeding 5.30 AM, and having to be up again at 7 AM is a bad thing (tm).

That said: There is a team of 3 doing these games here in the UK, mostly I tune them out, (iow I do other things when they come on) but sometimes they mention the Pacers and one then has to listen of course.
Now I do rarely if ever agree with these "jokers" and even more seldomly believe what they are saying (especially because if I do listen they have their facts wrong anyway) but this was a rumour I simply have to "relay" though I must say that my first action was writing them an email with some "smart" questions, though they decided (as they usually do on this show) to "ignore" my pugnant contributions.

According to a certain player (Youngblood) the latest whisper is that Ron might be traded to the Heat, for Haslem and Eddie Jones.

Now my first question was what the ^%$ would we want with Haslem and more precise why would we want Eddie Jones, and finally why on earth would the Pacers do this trade, as well as what are his sources.

As I said I got no reply, nor an in-show answer, but who knows, DD00 might have heard something, or someone here can explain why the Pacers would do this, because imo this is not such a brilliant idea.

remember though, don's shoot the messenger, this is UK tv, not NBA tv!

Hell, everyone knows I'd trade Artest for just about anything. Still I would not even do that trade. Jones is not a long-term answer at the 2 and Haslem plays our one solidifyed position at the 4.

I don't see Artest ever being traded to an Eastern Conference contender, especially for crap.

No way that trade occurs. Acouple major points.

    1. Udanis Haslem is a free agent but due to his service time the Heat can offer him no more than the MLE. If a team under the cap offers him more the Heat can not match it. Thats how Gilbert Arena's became a Wizard with Warriors getting no compensation and not not being able to match the offer , even tho they wanted to.

    2. The salary difference is too wide Eddie Jones has 2 years left on his contract at 14.5 mil for 2005-06 and 15.6 mil for 2006-07 , add to that he's now 34 , I can see no reason he would intrest the Pacers. Remember Artest only makes 6.5 mil for 2005-06 and only 29.8 mil in the 4 years left for its length.

Numerous net sources still think Artest will be shopped despite what Bird and Walsh say. But I can't see why the mentioned trade would take place , expecially with the Heat being along with the Pistons the Pacers main rivals for the Eastern Conference championship.

I've heard Ron , has been discussed by many teams with the Pacers. Bird and Walsh are holding tight. But mainly because any offer has been far below Artest's percieved value.

So I'd have to say in no way is the Heat rumor legit.

What do people think of an Artest trade like this:

Austin Croshere and Ron Artest to Dallas for Michael Finley?

Not ideal, but the perhaps the best we cna hope for if management is set on trading him. Dallas needs defense in a bad way, and seem willing to take chances.

    (constructive) thoughts?

This is a horrible trade. We gain nothing by getting Finley. He is old, and is waaaaay past his prime. We take 5 steps backwards by doing this trade.

    Why don't you like Finley?

I think he's aging fast, and probably no longer worth his contract. But I still think any contending team would like to have him on the perimeter, strictly from a basketball perspective.

What on earth does this have to do with the Artest rumour I posted ????

And I know the answer is nothing, so don't even bother, yes it is a rethorical question.

YOU CAN'T STOP ME FROM ANSWERING YOUR RHETORICAL QUESTION!

One made up trade proposal is as valid as any other, I just thought it makes sense to keep them together.

The real question is, would you rather a new thread be created for each trade proposal instead? I think I did everyone a favor.

If you do not see te difference between your made up idea of a possible trade and my posting of a rumour broadcasted to a television audience then we are on a hopeless course.

It is still known as thread hijacking btw, something frowned upon in "better" circles.

It's a good thing then that we all don't frequent those circles.

OK, I'll put this thread-train back on Able's tracks, so as not to ruffle any feathers.

I am just wodnering where this would come from, this guy is an American playing in the , not exactly the best league in the EU (probably the worst) and he would have this info.....

and there are so many impossibilities in it that you wonder why someone would go on sat tv and tell things like that.

No way that happens! And it's impossible aswell, I mean look at what EJ makes than add up Haslem, that's a BIG amount of salary, no way Ron earns anything close to that, so we would even have to throw in atleast one extra player.

But that's not what you said nor is it what I asked.

Seems to me that you're now saying you'd take Finley for the right price.

    Earlier, you said Finley sucks.

I'd like Finley on the Pacers, but I haven't decided how much I'd be willing to give up for him and that doesn't even consider just how bad his contract is.

But strictly from a basketball perspective, I'd pick Finley over many other players in the league. Well, maybe not now, since he isn't exactly aging gracefully.

I just get the feeling the Pacers are not going to do anything. They could end up making the team worse off then the team that never had a chance to play. I think this team will get a run, as-is before changes are made. Just a feeling!
