Default Could new logo be horse-related?

Of course it's all speculation on my part [/backpedaling], but is it possible that the Pacers may actually go back to our roots, which was possibly harness racing (according to Mark Montieth)? This conspiracy theory is further fueled by the Hoosier Park commercial that states that Reggie Miller wasn't the greatest pacer in the history of Indiana. (Yes, I know that is a silly commercial making a play on words, but it got me thinking).

I know that there is already one pony outfit in town. But, is there a chance that we could actually be able to tell what a "Pacer" refers to?

In this case, the smilie could go for either the Colts or the Pacers.

I know that I certainly would not want an auto racing theme. Just a personal preference that I cannot explain even if I wanted to.

[Man, I practically tripped and fell on my freakin' bottom after all of this backpedaling]

    Oh, sweet irony

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

If that's the case, does it mean we have to fire Boomer and Bowser, then hire the darn horse from Detroit???

According to the book titled "Loose Balls," all of the owners wanted to create a franchise that would set the pace for everyone else, so they called them the Pacers. I sure hope it has nothing to do with horses.

I always figure it was a combination of that and the Pace car for the 500 - leading the field.

Though I really don't know - it's kind of a goofy name but it's OK. Better than the Indiana Tractors.

    How about the Indiana Alfords?

I remember being a youngster and finding a book at the library that had details on how all the NBA teams got their names. I remember reading that when the investors chose to name the team after the state rather then the city, they chose the Pacer name to "Set the Pace" in pro basketball.

So that is what I'm going with...

As for the horse...I could see that either being very cool kinda like the Mavricks going from the 10-gallon hat, or extreamly lame! Just look at Detroit's former logo for total disaster!

That's basically the same thing I read in "Loose Balls." Do you by any chance know what book you read?

Youíre Both Correct, As far as the NBA Almanac goes

The Term Pacers comes both from Indiana rich Harness Racing History and the idea that the Franchise will Pace the league when it is instated

Itís an Amalgamation of both terms to become the Pacers, as we now know it

As for the Logo, Personally anything Horse should be a secondary as I don't believe anyone can Trump the Colt's Horse Shoe Logo, thatís of the Best around, I hope they keep it a simple shape as I love Tagging the P logo everywhere I go and man I sure will struggle to draw a Horse in Short Print
