Not a fan of Monta but unless there is a free agent we need the money to sign or they want the roster spot I think it'd be stupid to cut him loose. Save him and trade him at the deadline for a player and a first. I think with PG gone Monta is going to put up monster numbers and raise his trade value.

We've been trying to trade Monta for 2 years with no luck. It's time to buy him out and move on.

Monta has been so disappointing. A lot of people didn't like the signing, but he was a good player when we signed him and his decline was a lot harder and faster than anyone thought. He was the leading scorer on a 50 win team. Now he's just trash to us - completely useless. We had some bad luck in this signing.

After the DC signing, we have $13 million in cap space left--as much as $17 million if we shed some of our non-guaranteed guys.
But this assumes that we release both the cap hold of Brooks and CJ miles... Right?

I have a strong feeling that CJ is going to be re-signed as the starting SF.

Not real problem with that if it is a one year Reddick style deal. GRIII will still get plenty of PT and Lance can still pick up a few minutes there.

Seems like a good guy, but just a terrible fit as a basketball player.

If we're tanking like so many on PD are clamoring for, then TJ Leaf needs to get a heavy dose of SF minutes.

Leaf needs to hit the weight room 5 days a week and gain 15lbs of muscle. The kid acts like a pussy on the court.

I haven't watched a lick of video when it comes to Leaf playing. Can you elaborate on why you think this?

Defensively yes. Offensively he is aggressive. Dunks every chance he gets inside. Think your to tough on the kid. We knew his defensive liability when Pacers drafted him.

This is true. He looks like a kid among men. You can see his skill and finesse, but he is physically dominated by everybody on the court.

I've watched the last 3 games, the first game he wasn't present. He has some skills, he hasn't shot very well from distance. Hard for me to explain, but his physical mannerisms, how he looks / acts like a kid amongst men. He gets pushed, taken off balance very easily. The guy that he played against today, I think his name was Woods, he completely man handled him. His body seems ok, except his arms are very skinny, like Reggie Miller arms with zero definition. I think, hope that he will work hard in the weight room, like he needs 15lbs. of muscle mass asap. And then he need to get some tough pills!

Buyout amounts can be stretched so I think yes. But in our situation now, I'd prefer to take all of the cap hit this year.

For people who think Monta will get all his salary back - this is not generally how buyouts work. Monta is giving up some money to get released early, in order to catch on with another team. If the Pacers have to pay him the full amount, then they might as well make him play.
Yes. According to #65 of the prior link, even if the stretch provision is used, the team can choose how their salary cap hit will be affected. For example, if they negotiate the remaining guaranteed money to Ellis to be paid aver three years, they can take all of the cap hit in the first year if they want. Or they can divide it up however they want over two or three years.

No amount of muscle will fix toughness. That's 100% mindset, and physical play won't happen until he changes his mindset.

Least impressive rookie 1st round pick I've seen on a Pacers SL team since I can remember. Maybe Shawne Williams was less impressive? Can't remember too well. I have no clue how this guy is going to play in real games. Send him to the G-League. Ft. Wayne is going to learn a lot about this kid...probably for years to come. 18th pick overall selected for your G-League team.

He would have made for a pretty good 2nd round pick, maybe. But not 18. Oh well, I really like Anibogu & Sumner...it's too bad they're hurt. Anibogu would show more promise. If Pritch knew he liked the OKC deal he should have passed on Leaf because with Sabonis, Sabs is going to give us what we want Leaf to. But actually contribute

I watched some of his SL and UCLA clips. I'd like more toughness, but he's not without hope, and I see more upside with the way the new NBA is going.

I'm assuming because the term "waived" was used does that mean a buyout was not agreed to and we're just letting him go right?

He'll find a team, then we don't have to pay all that 10 mill.

I am guessing that is what it means. But I don't know. Woj will tell us soon
