Both Sabonis and Oladipo seem like fine guys on a team that may win 40 games in a best case scenario . But how do we get no picks.
Sabonis is the draft pick. They obviously like him. I have heard good things about his potential but my eyes did not see it.

I think we are going to be fine with it if Dipo averages the 20 PPG he is capable of averaging.
An inefficient 20 points per game and overrated defense.

    1) Anyone thinking we were getting *anything* back for PG was pipe-dreamin'. Paul George *****ed us six ways to Sunday. Was it a bad trade? Yep. And that's all we were *ever* lined up for. All these 1st-round pick hauls being thrown around weren't happening. They were throwing late-round picks at us. ESPN is currently gushing about how crazy lop-sided this trade is as if it was some sort of shock. Why is anyone shocked? We were in an impossible situation. We were *never* going to get full value for PG.
    2) I'm glad that we can just move on now. This damn situation was hanging heavy over the team, and it was affecting our ability to do much else. At least now, we are freed up to dive into FA without any distractions, and we have some money.
    3) I would've preferred to at least get a draft pick with this transaction in addition to the players we got, but what have you.

    ---------------
Getting past the pure emotion of the transaction, my take on 'Dipo, besides the fact he's IU alum, is he's serviceable. Is he a star? No. Will he be? Likely not. But after what we've been subjected to at the 2-guard position in recent years, he's an upgrade, especially defensively. He was the 11th-ranked player in the entire NBA last year in defensive win shares. Offensively, he's serviceable. 16ppg on 44% shooting, 37% from 3, isn't the end of the world.

At 25, he's also young. He's also good for a highlight dunk here and there. He's also just a really great guy and locker-room presence. I can see him getting along well with Turner.

What I *don't* like is his contract.

Is he PG? No. We've established that. We were going to get back worse talent than we gave up, that was just an inevitability.

    ---------------
Sabonis. Obviously the project part of this acquisition. Obviously didn't blow up in his rookie season. Has a ton of room for improvement. Again, though... very young guy. Trying to look at positives, he just turned 21, so he's younger than Turner. He *obviously* has bluechip blood in him, with his dad being one of the best international players of all-time. He isn't a small guy. So there's potential for growth and improvement. This really is just a wait-and-see scenario. I don't expect he'll be contributing much initially, but could eventually work his way into some play-time in our front-court.

    --------------
Looking at our likely starters as it stands *right* now, I personally don't think it seems as bleak as it might to others, but SF is now our hole:

PG - Lance (although I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in someone in FA)
    SG - Dipo
    SF - GR3?/Leaf
    PF - Young
    C - Turner

Realistically, I feel like our backcourt is now a better defensive backcourt, while our front-court is the same, and we hope Turner makes big strides, which isn't unrealistic.

SF becomes our top priority, I'd expect, in free agency.

Now here's where my pipe-dream comes in --- what if we steal Gordon Hayward.

As we stand now, I think we're competitive, but lucky to make playoffs. Since the East just lost two more stars, it might not be as hard to do.

There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

The more I think about it - we traded for a limited but beloved IU guy and a prospect. Maybe they are tanking.

    Pritchard go to hell.
Just my opinion, but I think there are some people who need to take some time away from the board.

This isn't an exciting trade, but it isn't the worst trade. I doubt IU had anything to do with it, that connection is something the Pacers usually seem to avoid not pursue so I wouldn't read anything into it.

I think what this trade does tell you is what kind of trade proposals the Pacers were actually receiving. As reported the Celtics were not actually offering what the rumors said they were offering. The Lakers have crap players, I don't understand why people think otherwise. When Pritch said the Lakers didn't have a player they liked he was not lying, because the Lakers have one of the least talented rosters in the NBA before draft night. Odds are the Lakers will be just as bad or worse than us next season as currently constructed. So we got a good, but overpaid, player and a decent prospect, they could have done much worse in the position Paul put the Pacers.

I do think they should have gotten some picks out of it, even if it was only a few 2nd round picks.

    I WANT PRITCHARD'S HEAD!

Not only are Oladipo and Sabonis a horrible enough return for PG, but we also have Oladipo on a garbage 4 year/84 million contract that's gonna take away a ton of flexibility.

Time to watch some YouTube videos.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

    This site shouldn't be free.

I always advocated not trading him and benching him/tanking if the best we could do was something like this.

Good for you. Nothing helps you get over losing the best player in franchise history like some good department store shopping!

"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

Also, if Pritch really feels that Sabonis is the future at PF, what does that say about his confidence in his own pick of Leaf.

    This is mind-boggling.
#1 concern is assets right now. Figure out this stuff later. I know no one wants to hear that because everybody is down on these two guys, but the Leaf or Sabonis question isn't important this year.

Great deal for OKC at such a low price. They'll hope that him and Westbrook have so much success that it's hard for PG to leave. Don't know if that will be enough to keep PG in West-of-the-Mississippi version of Indy.

The big mistake was taking on Oladipo's contract. I suppose they have to spend the money but it would be considerably better to keep that money, keep Paul George and pay another half-way decent guard next year.

Also, Sabonis isn't his dad. Just forget about him. He's a backup.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia
