we could include the 17th pick instead of AJ or just use it on jarrett jack. i wouldn't mind using some of our MLE on steve blake either.

i don't know about DD though if we got magloire. if he only wants the veteran's minimum then i would be all for that.
If that were the deal, I'd rather trade the #17.

But, yeah, I could ive with that trade.

    C - Magloire/DD/Foster/Pollard
    PF - JO/Cro
    SF - Ron/JJ
    SG - Jack/Fred
PG - Tins/AJ (or #17 pick)/Gill (or other FA PG)

We would have five potential All-Stars in the starting line-up.

why you're so happy about this trade is why it won't happen. NO isn't that stupid.

Even if the latter is true, it's still not a disaster. JB could never break out here behind Ronnie and JO. And if we just swallow the contracts that gives us some financial flexibility for the future. The potential for good things coming out of this trade is far greater than JB's "potential."
Only if we do something with the finanacial flexibility. Given Donnie's track record, I don't see it.

14, yes, but DD and JJ are likely to be resigned. Or atleast one of them VERY likely. That leaves us at 15. With the quality we have I think that's a little too deep for our own good, certainly after this past year where virtually everyone got substantial playing time .

I want some players moved for sure if we do this trade and resign DD and we HAVE to make such a 2-1, 3-1 or 3-2 trade if we also resign JJ, which I hope.

DD and JJ were both included in my count of 14. Gill and Edwards would make it 16, but there's no way we re-sign both of them.

    Gill isn't a FA
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Does anyone have a list of FAs? I swear I saw Gill's name on the list.

Suave, I know you can read. It would be for the expiring contracts. You do like what Detroit did last year with their expiring contracts, don't you? It allowed them to make a trade that helped them win a championship, possibly two.

    Nah, we wouldn't want that.
This is my belief as well, though I do worry. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Pacers just sat on these contracts and collected the cash to lower payroll.

Of course, I happen to believe even than that it's a fine trade because George and Slava are still better than Bender in a suit.

Well, I'm confused. Pacers.com neglects to list either Ron (as expected) and Jonathan Edwards. Why no Jonathan? All our other players are there but him...Yeah, I'm pretty sure Gill is signed still.

Even so, financial flexibility is a good thing.
If we just swallow the contracts it won't give the Pacers any more real flexibility. They're still way over the cap. If they keep them, it's purely for the business.

I'm pretty tired of hearing about Benders "potential". He's been in the league for a while now and hasn't once played a full season. Even if we do move him, I seriously doubt he will be able to stay healthy wherever he goes.

I'm just waiting for the news to come in of Bender stunting his toe and missing the entire 2005-2006 season.

Don't know why two threads about the same rumor started up this morning hours apart, but I'm merging them. Expect the responses to be alternating and silly.

If Gill isn't a FA, then our line-up is currently:

    C - Foster/Harrison/Pollard
    PF - O'Neal/Croshere
    SF - Artest/Bender
    SG - Jackson/FJones
    PG - Tinsley/Johnson/Gill

That's 12 players locked in, if Reggie's contract doesn't count against it.

That's 14. Remember, we'd be dealing JB and our draft pick, so that's basically a two-for-two to LA, and DD, JJ, Gill, and Edwards are all FAs.
I'm pretty sure Gill is not a FA.

    Okay, my bad .

Gill signed a 2-year contract last year btw, so he's still under contract.

i can't remember where i read this but i remember a rumor involving bender and our pick for magloire.

if i can find it i will post the link

That wasn't a rumor. The guy on REALGM was just making up some trades that would work. A rumor would be if someone heard the Pacers were talking to NO about Magloire.

I think it is a GREAT trade.

Bender is useless to us, and IMO his potential does not approach that of JJ, who has proven that he can play both ends of the floor.

One thing that every post has overlooked as that Slava is not useless. He fills a need that we have and that is a large PF/C that can hit a mid-range shot. If the man is open form 12 feet, he'll knock it down. And although not a top choice, he will do until we can get something better to fulfull that role.

The 2 contracts are expiring contracts. With Pollard's contract that makes 3 contracts totalling $13-$14M that expire at the end of the season. Throw in the contracts (Croshere, Gill) that expire at the end of the following season and the total jumps to about $23M.

I'd guess we'd do something with contracts this year, if an opportunity presents itself. Otherwise they'll fall off the books and we will look for an opportunity the following season with Croshere's contract.

With the addition of Slava, we would have a ton of bodies in the frontcourt. Bird and Walsh would almost certainly do something to better balance the roster.

And as someone pointed out earlier, you have many more opportunities to dump the $3M and/or $5M contracts of healthy players than you do one single $8M contract of a constantly injured player.

Anyone who thinks we will get something at #17 that is of more value to us THIS YEAR than Slava or George is very mistaken. The #17 has very little chance of seeing anything more than token minutes this season, if he ever gets off of IL. The two acquired players could easily function as role players, even if they are not used as part of a 2nd trade.
