    Default JB rumor still alive

i posted this a month ago but the bender & 17th pick to LA for george, slava, and a 2nd round pick is "supposedly" going to go down around the draft.

hoopsworld.com is reporting this again and again over the past month and just put up a knew article today. i don't know much about the website but i do know they are based out of LA and accurately predicted the shaq to miami trade last year.

personally, i hope LB & DW don't pull the trigger on this. there will be quality players at 17 this year and i still want to see JB when he's healthy (if that ever happens). i would hate to see him break out on another team.

    here's the link

George is trash. Medvedenko is decent. We don't need a 2nd round pick.

The article indicates it is a done deal.

What am I missing. What is the upside of this besides just geting rid of Bender.

Is this a precursor to other deals.

I mean George is a nice player, he is a good defender and a decent standstill jump shooter. But will he beat out JJ for the backup minutes at small forward. Is George insurance for Ron, in case he goes off again or gets traded.

Likely this trade is for contracts. Pacers won't have to pay the first round pick and Bender who has two years left will be gone.

They are expiring contracts, allowing us to potentially make a Sheed-esque* trade at the deadline.

*I use this as only as a very loose example as that sort of daylight robbery only happens very rarely. But there are usually good players on bad teams and expiring contracts are the best way to acquire them.

If we don't have another "big" trade in store, I'm going to be pissed.

Yeh if you add up the contracts of Pollard, Reggie, Slavo and George, that equals $19 M

We could give Artest the contract he deserves.

(Should I really post that, yes why not)

When I read the title to this thread I thought you were going to tell me they announced Jensen Button was done at Honda and had gone to Williams.

Jonathan Bender is so useless in my mind that I had forgotten that he was even on the team.

you add 2 contracts and subtact 1....assuming we keep DD and JJ that gives us 16.....something else would have to be done. Unless we have no intention of keeping BOTH JJ and DD.

no, that's not even good either. Edwards is a FA too, we just don't talk about resigning him cuz we don't need to.

I used to think that. Now I dont and the reason was the game against the Kings where he played like the best player ever to play the game for 15 minutes. Then he bumped his shoulder into a Kings player and was out for the year. If he cant take a shoulder bump he will never last a season in the NBA.

I think that the Bender supporters (myself included) are just afraid that it would be another JO-type situation. I really want to see him do well, only if its in a Pacers uniform.

Yup. I'd rather him rot on our bench than become a star somewhere else.

This really, truly pisses me off. It really does.

Last Non-Exercisable Year. Players in the last non-exercisable year of their contract cannot be traded after the trade deadline when teams can once again trade players after their season is over.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++

    Last
.....is listed by RealGM and is next to Deven George's name

(EDIT: AND DG's checkbox is greyed out so it cannot be included in any trade right now)

and BYC1 is listed next to Medvedenko

Now I'm not certain how to read the LAST thing for George but if Med is BYC...don't these make this whole thing kinda difficult????

I'm not sure about George, but Medvedenko BYC1 means this year.

this is hands down my biggest fear. JB's "potential" is unmatched in this league.....he really does have the potential to be a larger T-Mac if he can get healthy and stay healthy.

i would rather just swallow the extra 7 million he'll get paid in 2006-2007 then risk him breaking out in LA.

only way i would even consider this trade is if LB & DW are 100% planning on packaging the laker contracts with pollard in feb. for a star quality player on a team looking to shed some cap.

shawn marion comes to mind as amare is going to get maxed out next summer.

I just don't like any of those players. We could get someone more useful at the 17. And even though I am lead enthusiast for the Get Rid of Bender club, I can't say we should do this.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Suave, I know you can read. It would be for the expiring contracts. You do like what Detroit did last year with their expiring contracts, don't you? It allowed them to make a trade that helped them win a championship, possibly two.

    Nah, we wouldn't want that.

If we make a big deal to move the contracts, that's a different story. But I have an odd feeling that we'll just swallow them to clear some salary.

Even so, financial flexibility is a good thing.
