They got slaughtered by the Spurs but MDA is a good offense coach but until he realizes defense matters he's not winning anything of relevance until then.

Whoops I was thinking 2015 they played the Spurs.

Regardless didn't they mail it in at the end of that series?

MDA will win you a lot of games but if you want a championship he's not going to do anything for you.

This kind of thinking is kind of ridiculous, imagine a Pacers team winning a lot of game OH THE HORROR !!!!

Mike helped EJ to win this price "but that is the only thing he can do to players" ....

And if they never win a championship at the end of it they are "mediocre", "don't care about winning", and "satisfied with raising the x-number-of-wins banner".

Why? Considering players and coaches are judged by ring or ringless in all sports. Its not that ridiculous.

Pacers used to win a lot of games and it was great but no title to show for it. Sure its remembered fondly now for how far the Pacers have fallen since then but it wasn't enough for Frank Vogel who got fired.

Rick Carlisle won a lot of games and got fired(although the brawl and him losing the team did him in more than anything else)

At the time when these guys were around it was how they were never going to get past that hump to win it all. Isn't that why Bird kicked Vogel to the curb he didn't think he could win a title with him as coach and he's probably right but we haven't done anything with Bird running things either. Of course in Vogel's case not many can get past LeBron so I can't really hold too much against him in that regard either.

NM: I misread that the wins banner was the Patriots(and its still a joke I don't care how many SBs they won)

However people here saying they or others don't judge players/teams on rings is laughable to me.

Back in the day you would be considered good if you didn't win anything but those days are gone.

Now its followed by "He was good but he didn't win a ring(or enough rings)"

“Nuggets are not my first choice but they are exactly at the same level of the other teams. Denver’s advantage is that they can offer me a five-year contract while other franchises can offer me a four-year deal. Nuggets are at the same level of the others” Gallinari said.

Just to clarify, I believe you have to win a lot of games to get into good position in the playoffs. Once in the playoffs there are a lot of factors just beyond "how many regular season games can you win" that come into play - luck, matchups, counter-strategies, and so forth. It's why I will be disappointed with a team that does not get to the second round, but anything beyond that (short of a one-sided collapse, of course) doesn't necessarily suddenly mean the team sucks.

Some strategies are pretty easily countered - a standard high-speed offense strategy can be derailed by strong defense and a slower pace, for instance. The 3-point-barrage strategy works because it is hard to defend a completely spread offense but not only does it require multiple highly-consistent outside shooters I am convinced someone will figure out a way to defend it because duplicating it is limited based on the players needed. MDA to me is the epitome of the strategy that wins during a marathon regular season but gets tripped up in the playoffs.

Which is why if the goal is to win a ring he wouldn't be someone I would hire.

I sort of assumed Denver was after KLove to replace Gallo's production. Definitely a trade up for Denver. Maybe this quote puts a little more pressure on them to chase after Love, but I imagine they already knew he was gonna pursue other ventures.
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

I mean Love IS still only 28, try to pair him up with some of those kids as they hit their prime in a couple years when he's 30/31, hey maybe ya got something. problem is they gotta give some of those kids to us. Jokic and Love would be an insanely fun frontline to watch on offense.

I don't think they want Hill back, great decision on their part.

Yeah not sure any team wants to be paying George Hill $15 million to miss a 1/3rd of the season. Great player when healthy though.

Rubio would probably become the player that he was meant to be.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?
