Thread: Ron Artest not avaliable?

  1. #1

    Default Ron Artest not avaliable?

According to the Florida Today Larry Bird is telling teams that Ron is not avaliable for trade discussions.

    http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbc...32/1063/SPORTS

It is under "quick hits" at the very end of the article.

It also states that Artest will play for the Pacers in summer league action.

I have a hard time seeing Bird saying that about Artest. Heck, I don't see him putting the untouchable label on JO. You always look for ways to improve, no matter who's being talked about.

I could see him getting tired of GM's offering him a stale bag of potato chips for him and saying, "Don't bother talking to me until you make a legitimate offer." Right now that probably amounts to pretty much the same thing.

I'd guess he'll hope that Artest stays clean at the start of next year and gets his trade value up. It can't get much lower than it is right now.

That's what I'm thinking as well. He might as well call trade talks off, because he isn't going to get any offers he would even consider.

Ron has a very good chance of being moved at the trade dealine, though, IMO.

Okay if Ron stay clean next year, why would we want to trade him if he has changed? Thats kind of stupid. Wait for him to change and after all the **** this team has been through with him then we trade him when he becomes good.

I'll respond to two posts that I can only describe as idiotic.

You trade him if you think it'll improve your team.

    Duh.

    I sure hope so - wasn't how I read Jermaniac's post though.

However, IF Artest behaved himself, what possible trade involving him would be an improvement?

Thank you, what are the Lakers going to give us Kobe or are the Rockets going to give us T-Mac?

The theme came from your post where you said, "I'd guess he'll hope that Artest stays clean at the start of next year and gets his trade value up. It can't get much lower than it is right now."

That's in line with what most posters, including myself think. However, a lot of posters would want to trade Ron the second his value went up just to get something of value in return.

Thus my agreement with Jermanic's post that if Ron really cleans up his act there is no reason to trade him. Of course it would be a given that we would trade him to improve the team.

You trade him because he's proven he can't keep his act clean for an entire year.

Dunno - could he have gotten you Vince Carter last season? Probably not since you didn't have any ending contracts to throw in but big-time players have been available each of the last 2 years at the trade deadline.

Though if the Pacers insist that they receive an absolutely equal on-the-floor player in return for Artest then he'll be here a long time. It'll take 2-3 years before what happened last season can be discounted - and then only if he doesn't have any of his other, smaller meltdowns.

I'm anxious to see Ron in the summer league. Hopefully the possible lockout won't ruin that as well. I've missed watching Artest in games, and I would even enjoy clips of him in summer league.

Why will Ron be playing for our summer league, anyhow? Isn't that usually for rookies and rookie-contract players?

Regarding the quote, it's just a tactic. Don't take too much stock in what GMs publicly say regarding players and trades. It's like a game of poker to these guys.

What kind of logic is that?

He's kept his act clean for half a year, so you want to trade him because his value is up and he's proven he can't keep his act clean for an entire year . . . even though he's half way to proving that he can!

Give me another reason, that one doesn't float! I'll accept that you just want to get rid of him.

If I was Larry, I wouldn't make Ron available for trade discussions, either. That's why he keeps Donnie around......

Doesn't float?? Where have you been the last two years? The fight WASN"T the first or even second time he's proven he can't be trusted. He's SINCE proven that he's flat out wacko in his interviews, AND that he still doesn't get it.
He tried to QUIT on this team THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!! (remember the cd??)
What the heck are you guys smoking that you can't see what a detriment to TEAM this idiot is? Teammates don't trust him. For good reasons.
    Great talent? Yep
    Great talent wasted? Maybe
Do i WISH that he would clean up and become a good citizen and use his skills to help the Pacers? Yep
Do I think he will? Don't know
Can the Pacers risk ANOTHER season on this guy.
    HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What other reason would I have for wanting to get rid of him?

That reason floats just fine. If Ron ever keeps his act clean for half a year, we should consider ourselves lucky, and move him before he destroys his trade value again.
