Default The NBA Draft - Pacer Digest Style - The New Orleans Hornets

    A couple notes

I dropped a couple players from the draft list because it looks like the will be pulling out of the draft. The main guy I took off the board is Tiago Splitter.

I'm aware that there will almost certianly be trades in the top half of the lottery. However, the main reason, other than it's fun, is to see who might be available later in round one. I'm much more interested in picks 11 thru 17 than I am the top 5.

    This is how this works.

    1. Each night, around the same time, I'll post a poll question. It will be the next team in the draft order. Tonight it's New Orleans, tomorrow Charlotte & so on. We'll stop with the Pacers pick at #17 just a few days before the draft.

    2. I'll list the current team "on the clock" and put a poll together with a group of players that could be selected by that team. Your choices will be two players at each position; center, power forward, small forward, shooting guard & point guard.

    3. Which ever player gets the most votes will be the player selected by that team.

    4. Once a player has been selected he will not be eligible to be selected by another team.

    5. Even though there will be trades that impact (thanks Jay) the draft, they will not have a bearing on our draft. A player most be choosen, we can not simply decide that the pick will be traded.

So, here's the NBA Draft - Pacer Digest Style

You're the one making the call on draft night. Tonight you are the Hornets. Who do you select with the #4 pick.

Here is how the draft looks so far.

    1. Milwaukee --------- Andrew Bogut --- 50 of 64 votes --- 78.13%
    2. Atlanta ------------ Marvin Williams -- 29 of 56 votes --- 51.79%
    3. Portland ----------- Gerald Green ---- 23 of 41 votes --- 56.10%
    4. New Orleans
    5. Charlotte
    6. Utah
    7. Toronto
    8. New York
    9. Golden State
    10 LA Lakers
    11 Orlando
    12 LA Clippers
    13 Charlotte
    14 Minnesota
    15 New Jersey
    16 Toronto
    17 Indiana

Here is a look at the top players at each position that New Orleans will be choosing from.

    Center
    Channing Frye --- 6-11, 250
    Johan Petro ----- 7-1, 250

    Power Forward
    Fran Vazquez --- 6-10, 229
    Ike Diogu ------- 6-9, 255

    Small Forward
    Danny Granger --- 6-8, 215
    Joey Graham ----- 6-7, 217

    Shooting Guard
    Antoine Wright --- 6-7, 205
    Martell Webster -- 6-7, 235

    Point Guard
    Chris Paul ------- 6-0, 168
    Deron Williams --- 6-3, 210

Deron Williams. The word is they like him better than Chris Paul, mainly because he's bigger.

Chris Paul. A pass-first point does you no good when there's no one to pass to.

Uh - Deron Williams is a better floor general than Chris Paul. So is Jarrett Jack.

Paul's got amazing athleticism and quickness and is deadly from 3 but he can't run an offense like Williams can. Not close to being as good on defense either.

    Who's the Channing Frye fan?

Once again, I say all polls should be public.

I agree, then we could look back after the draft and see who knows their stuff and who is just throwing darts.

Most everyone knows who the first 5 or 6 players in the draft are going to be, after that though it gets tricky. And the cream rises.

PS. I'm not one of the cream, but I would like to know who is.

Chris Paul for me. I've voted with the majority thus far.

Chris Paul. Because he HAS to be one of the top 4 with all of his hype.

Me neither. Of the 10 listed, I can only remember seeing 3 play (Frye, Paul, and Williams.) I'd just like to hear the person's reasoning for picking a C when that's the only position NO has with Magloire.

Ah . . . did you ask Grace if she's threw her dart . . . er voted yet? (grin)

Never mind, I remember she said that after Chris Paul would be when she wouldn't know who to pick, and Paul is still available.

Shoot, we should have all got together and agreed not to vote for Paul, then since he was never picked Grace would always know who to vote for.

Nah, she would have caught on sooner or later.

She remembered that she knew Deron Williams, too. So she's still got a couple more picks in her.

And since I remembered who Deron was I went ahead and picked him; therefore, Chris Paul was drafted.
