Default Is PG the best pacer ever

With PG moving on i have seen a lot of post saying he was the best ever. So who ya got.
    I pick Big Mac.
When he was a pacer he was considered almost on the same level as Dr. J. He avg. almost 30 pts, 14 rbs and over 6 assist a game.
Good is the enemy of Great

We're changing the identity of our basketball team -- dramatically. We're a power post team -- a blood-and-guts, old-school, smash-mouth team that plays with size, strength, speed and athleticism. We attack the basket. . . . This is the new identity of our team. It was a great effort. I'm very proud of our guys."

Pacers are a 50 year old franchise with talented guys ranging not only different eras, but different leagues. I'd say Paul George is likely the most TALENTED NBA PACER (so far). That 7 foot kid wearing number 33 has an outside shot of usurping him though.

I don't know if Paul George even eclipses Jermaine O'neal from a career with the Pacers standpoint.

Paul hurt his legacy forever though. Even hardcore fans will have a tough time remembering the good times when thinking of how it ended. The average fan is going to give him no quarter whatsoever.

It's two separate questions to be discussed.

First, is he the most talented basketball player to play for the Pacers?
Second, was his career as a Pacer the greatest Pacers career ever?

I think you can certainly make the argument for the first one. His two-way ability and athleticism is hard to match. A deadly shooter with a quick first step who raised his game in the playoffs, and could play better defense on the greatest player of the generation than about anyone else in the league. Certainly a rare breed.

The second question though, IMO, is not even close. His career accomplishments are nearly identical to JO's time in Indy, and absolutely pale in comparison to Reggie and the rest of the numbers hanging in the rafters that belong to actual (ABA) champions. His leadership, community involvement, and devotion to this city and to Pacers fans doesn't even match up to Jeff Foster's, in my opinion, let alone Granger or even Rik Smits (who still lives here).

So, from any aspect other than pure talent, I don't think he's close. But on talent alone, I do think he's right there in the discussion.
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

Big Mac is a great matchup for Paul as best Pacer ever in terms of athleticism/physical gifts.

In terms of franchise success and legacy, Reggie is clearly - IMO - at the top. Roger Brown and Mel Daniels perhaps in the conversation as well.
I'd rather die standing up than live on my knees.

If you are asking about colts19 mentioning Big Mac - That would be George McGinnis.

I agree that reggie is the greatest pacer ever when you consider everything. I pick Big Mac as the greatest at his very best.

Yes, for now. Because he's leaving so for now until a new player unseats him.... he's the best.

No. Paul is not the best Pacer ever.

Brown, Daniels and McGinnis were all better. Reggie was not a better player but he was a much better player in the clutch.

Brown, Daniels, McGinnis, Lewis and Reggie all have a better legacy.

The only thing Paul has is that he was the most talented Pacer ever.

In my opinion, people overestimate how talented Paul really is, mainly because he has a bit of a flashy streak in him. Overall I don't think he is all that much more talented than Artest, he just doesn't have mental issues. I think you could argue over him and JO being the two best from a pure talent perspective, but I don't think it would be a cut and dry case either way. I think from a practical on the court perspective I don't think you can clearly say he is better than Miller, Artest, or Granger. Any advantage he has on those three from a talent perspective, they all more than make up for from an effort perspective. Hell, during the Vogel era you could make a very strong statistical argument that George Hill had as much of an impact on wins and losses as Paul George.

I left out the ABA because I am too young to have watched, and do not have a good feel for how good the players are outside of what I am told.

Probably best NBA player, I'd take Reggie though. Franchise loyalty, longevity, playoff performances, passion.. yea, I'd take Reggie.

Talent-wise, yes Paul is tops for NBA Pacers. He also delivered in the playoffs. Still, I think Reggie carried the team more on offense than Paul.

Reggie had a higher average ppg than Paul in the playoffs even though Reggie played until he was nearly 40 years old. Higher FG% and higher 3%. Also a higher FT%.

So, while Paul performed very well in the playoffs, Reggie still tops him there. Actually, with the chips down my money is with Reggie.

Not to mention Paul is a slime ball on a personal level knocking up strippers, getting catfished and leaking his trade demand. He's scum afaic compared to Reggie.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia

Legacy wise he's nothing. He might as well be Ron Artest. Granger turned out to have a much better legacy.

Granger's legacy is IMO spotless. Still supports the Pacers, played his butt off, re-signed when we sucked donkey balls, told the Pacers to draft PG when Larry called him about it. And was only betrayed by his knees, gave up his starting spot to Lance without throwing a fit.

Danny Granger is the definition of a true pro. The Pacers could not have asked for a better guy to build on after the brawl

He doesn't. I'd like too see an argument as to paul being better than JO. Paul will never sniff third in mvp voting.

He is also the single biggest douche to wear a Pacer uniform.

That includes David Harrison and Ron Artest.
