Yes there is and that is obviously what you are missing. It's called the right coaches and trainers turning a guy and a team into winners. If it was all about talent the Sixers would already be winning. I mean these dudes didn't become lottery picks and then just quit trying. Sure sometimes it is on the player if they make it or bust, but sometimes the team puts the player in the right position with the right minds to succeed or sets them up to fail and they bust. You seriously undervalue organizational culture within any business and the impact it has on workers' productivity.
No, I just don't believe in taking credit for the hard work of others. Just my thing.

This is all besides the point because whatever Paul George "owes" the Pacers was repaid several times over the course of his current contract.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I would say Bird is out of his element when it came to dealing with this generation of the league. The NBA has allowed this to happen. PG shouldn't be the one making personnel decisions. Players should be playing and GMs should be running the team. No other model works properly. Instead, you get junk like this where the best NBA Pacer walks for nothing. It makes a complete mockery of the NBA.
Bird really shouldn't do anything that deals with people.

He screwed up a lot. I don't know if he had done anything differently, if it would have mattered. PG might have just wanted to go home. But Bird screwed up a lot, and a lot of it had to do with his ego.

Cavs make sense--even for PG on a rental. LeBron is starting to get up there in age and is on a 1-year deal, so they have to go all in here. However, again if Love isn't on the table, and I'm the Pacers, I say no thanks. There's just not enough there unless you're getting the Cavs top picks post-LeBron for like 5 years.

That is totally your own personal opinion. But leave it to you to throw around opinion like fact.

If it's a trade with Cleveland we're getting Love in return. There is simply no other way Cleveland can put together a better offer than most other teams.

I think it's just us trying to recover value for PG. If we let the Lakers know we will give up PG to the Cleveland, there's a risk that he may actually stay there with LeBron.

I just want a top 3 pick in this draft, make it happen KP!

You're the one that started throwing around hypotheticals and basing them as fact. I simply responded with one of my own.

The only "fact" I started with was that loyalty is a ridiculous concept in pro sports and anyone that believes in it should watch fewer family sitcoms.

Um, theres a reason Lance was only semi-successful with the Pacers. Look at every other team he went to, he was an epic failure.

Lance would probably be out of the league right now if Pacers didn't draft him.

It's all about the right system and opportunity in this league.

I highly doubt Kawhi Leonard would be discussed as a top 10 player in this league if he got drafted to the Kings rather than playing on the Spurs.

we can easily find another PG level player from 5 to 10th pick, i believe we are good at it.

You think Paul would slide to the 2 in Cleveland, or would LeBron shuffle to the 4? I think the latter.

More interesting that it appears the Pacers were the ones that made the call.
Smart move by Pritchard if that's the case. Playing with Lebron is probably the one thing that could compete with playing with the Lakers for PG. Cleveland is certainly desperate to get Lebron another ring. We could maybe end up with something OK if Pritch can pit Cleveland and LA against each other.

I don't think PG 'owes' the Pacers anything, but he could've at least thrown us a bone by keeping this behind closed doors. I can understand him not wanting the Lakers to gut a big asset like the 2nd overall pick if he's planning on signing there, but by leaking this, it's just going to make it harder for the Pacers to trade him--who are going to have to try awfully hard to save face now in any trade.

Get Kevin Love away from LeBron & I bet he returns to his old self.

    Kevin Love
    Myles Turner

I'd take that all day in our situation. Only a drop in 5-8 spots in overall league ranking.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

I'd be okay with that, then sign Hayward in the off-season!

The only way I could see Hayward signing here is if PG was here and committed long-term. I don't think there's any shot now over Utah or Boston.

Someone post Chad Ford's latest Insider post about Lakers Pacers trade. He just tweeted it.

    Thanks
    "Lakers get: Paul George

Pacers get: Luol Deng and the No. 2 pick

View trade in ESPN's trade machine

Why the Lakers do it: George reportedly wants to play for the Lakers, and he would immediately improve the team. With their first-round pick going to the 76ers next year, the Lakers do not need to tank anymore. Winning is now a priority in L.A.

    2017 NBA draft

Get ready for Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball and the 2017 draft, with analysis from Chad Ford and other ESPN experts.

While the Lakers could be patient and wait a year for George, getting him now with the opportunity to re-sign him in 2018 (when he can become a free agent) might be worth swapping a player such as Lonzo Ball, who has star appeal but is not seen by the Lakers as a sure thing.

And getting Deng's horrible deal off the books would be a major bonus.

Why the Pacers do it: They know that all signs and reports point to George leaving next year via free agency. Landing the No. 2 pick and the chance to draft a potential superstar like Ball is the best possible outcome for a George trade.

New GM Kevin Pritchard fancies himself as a point guard whisperer. He'll feel as if he can get the most out of Ball."

Great, we can be the 2013 T-Wolves for the next 4 years. Seriously, trading for Kevin Love is begging to be in basketball hell for years.

I honestly don't think there's any chance we are dumb enough to move PG to the Cavs for Love, but I've been surprised before.
