acquiring Love or Griffin is better than nothing. I think both the Clippers and Cavs would jump at that opportunity as well.
It's really not, though. Getting a decent player back is going to make you feel good, but what's going to happen is that we end up competing for a playoff spot in the bottom half of the East and picking out of the lottery. Trading PG for a "star" isn't going to help us get anywhere. It's just kicking the can down the road.

Very interesting last sentence from the Woj article:

George had a close relationship with the architect of those Pacers teams, Larry Bird, who recently stepped down as team president to become a franchise consultant.
    Anyone care to comment?

How do I say this without feeling silly, $75 million dollars ain't what it used to be.
This. With all of the money that star players make outside of their NBA salary, it is literally impossible for the NBA to financially incentivize them to stay with their original team in any meaningful way.

Bird is why we are in this position in the first place

Per Woj article: "So far, Indiana is asking for a substantial package of talent and draft picks for George, league sources said. Discussions could extend until Thursday’s NBA draft – or beyond."

Glad Pritchard is at least starting high on his asking price. Maybe if you start super high you end up with okay value (first rounder and young piece)?
It's like when I list something on ebay that goes for $300, I might list it at $1000 or best offer and hope somebody really wants it and offers $400+ then I accept.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

You only want 1st rounders and exp contracts for him. You want nothing that might jeopardize your draft position. Not Love not Griffin. It's time to be awful as possible. It's the only way to build at this moment with GS and the cupboard being bare anyway.. if Pritchard can turn him into two 1st rounders he's done his job. I'd guess lottery picks are out of the question. It'd be great to get another top 25 pick in this draft but pg has hurt the Pacers so bad I'm not sure what happens.

the only real favor he did was keep them from throwing money at Teague and a JJ Redick type. Now you can just suck and develop Myles Turner and hope you hit on this years draft.

If you tank into multiple stars they won't leave, which is essentially what GSW did.
That's extremely difficult to do. But it probably is the only way to win a title in Indiana.

PG wants to win. If you trade him to Cleveland or Boston then who says he doesn't resign if they reach the finals? If he has fun, is loved & wins I don't see why he would walk away. If LA wants him they need to trade for him now.

The DPE is just too little too late. What does 75 million dollars mean to Paul George? Not much as crazy as it is to say.

If you want to make stars have a real reason to stay in small markets by themselves (I.E. as a solo all star), you have to come up with something else.

Yup, time to get off the treadmill. Tank, and hope the Pacers don't leave town in the interim.

    What about this?

    Cavs In: Paul George
Suns In: Kevin Love, #18 pick
Pacers In: Jared Dudley, Brandon Knight, #4 pick

    Yes, I'm desperate.

I don't think we're quite as screwed in these negotiations as some of you. Though it's bad that our plan basically got flipped on it's head yesterday. It's easy to say that the Pacers "should have seen this coming", but if Paul was saying the same thing behind closed doors or at the Pritchard dinner that he was saying Thursday at the softball game, what do you expect them to do? Treat him as a liar?

For whatever reason, PG and Mintz decided to wait til yesterday to deliver this message. No idea why other than Paul is just kind of a prima-donna.

I think you can drum up a bidding war. You need the Cavs and 2 other teams.

Maybe we could acquire Solomon Hill. Solo was always a top notch defender.
Lance is finally home. Whether he becomes our starting PG or he's 6th man, he's getting big minutes and he's here to stay. #llortontnia

I don't care if the Pacers win 10 games next year, I just wanna see Lance posterize PG once and run down the court with that scowl on his face.

All i know for sure is that somehow someway, the talking heads around the league will blame Indiana for this.
    Only the ones on PD.

I don't recall people blaming OKC for Durant leaving last season.

Oh, **** I honestly forgot that Lance is on the team. ****. That makes it even worse, can you imagine a team being turned over to Lance. Nightmare, absolute nightmare.

But wait, I thought Lance was going to talk PG into staying. Oh well
Yeah, and some were convinced that PG was actually going to help recruit players to the Pacers. Anyone paying any attention to him knew that was never going to happen!

On top of this wouldn't it make it easier for LA to sign him and others next summer with PG on the roster, because if he is on their roster they got go up to the Luxury Tax?

I'm not sure I can remember another player doing something like this. Announcing a year early that they're leaving ??

How does he expect to get treated by the fans and teammates ?? Even LeBron did the whole 'decision' thing -- after he was a FA.

So, either PG is really just dumb and dumber rolled into one or something ain't right with this whole thing.
Or he is trying to force a trade.

Without a doubt Bird put us in this place. I've said for some time that I couldn't blame Paul if he left considering the amount of time that he gave Bird to build a team around him and Bird did almost nothing. I'd like to see something from Paul of the Pacers confirming this announcement but assuming it's accurate I'd like to get what we can for him before draft night.
Larry Bird qouted March 25th. 2015:

Bird: I wanted to keep our group together because in the summer, if David and Roy opt out, we're back to zero, really. We don't have that much, so you leave your options open. If we did make a trade, I didn't want to take on a lot of contracts -- because that's what usually happens. Plus, I liked my guys. They're playing well. If we keep the core together and Paul comes back healthy, we'll be right back to where we were.

PG is a massive prima donna, that's for sure. This is Melo to NY all over again type of drama.

I do respect how Lebron never addressed this issue until his contracts were up in 2010 and 2014. Same with Durant last year. They just played instead of giggling with Jimmy Kimmel about talking to Kobe.....then following it with talking about wanting to win a title in Indy. Complete mind games all around. I hated Durant's move, but at least he just shut up and played with OKC until his contract was up.

I know that Paul is going to be a free agent and has the right to go wherever he wants, but the damage this does to the Pacers may be irrepairable. I can't see how he will ever be regarded as anything other than a villain in Indiana, despite what good he did while he was here.

It's unfortunate, but that's the culture the NBA has when it comes to small market teams. Big market teams can shake this off in time, but for small markets, it's essentially a fatal blow.

The thing is Cleveland, GSW, and San Antonio are all small market teams but they have stars that matter.

Its not the market its the star power.

We could have a bidding war between LA and Cleveland. Paul would stay with Cleveland imo. Unless him and Lebron both bolt for LA lol
