Default With the 18th pick, the Pacers select...

If you are assisting Pritchard in the draft room, and he tells you we have to draft a PF/C, who would you pick and why? In this scenario, OG and Zach Collins are off the board.

I think the most likely option is that we trade the pick.

I really hope not, the team needs cheap young talent...can't keep chasing vets with 10+ million contracts with no great future...that's how they're stuck with Monta and Al Jefferson.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

In this scenario, I'd go with Jordan Bell. Must be a good reason he is being discussed and climbing draft boards. Athletic, defensive-minded player who could play both big positions, and would match up well alongside Myles Turner. Potential to switch on the pick n' roll and counterbalance Turner's slow-footedness. Many of the other options this year are too slow to play alongside Turner, lack defensive promise, and replicate the offensive skills we already have in Turner but to a lesser degree.

I like Bell a lot too. But like cdash, I'm expecting the pick to get traded.

If you don't want to play along, at least offer a reasonable return we'd get for the pick.

Trade the pick unless you get the #3 pick and rebuilding time starts.

This is correct. This team needs productive players on rookie scale contracts like nobodies business. Vets are expensive.

It would be smart to have someone ready to replace Thad Young when his contract is up that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

    Probably someone like Thad Young.

For the record, I'm not advocating that we do trade the pick, I just think that's what will probably happen.

With the 18th pick of the 2017 NBA draft the Indiana Pacers select Carmelo Anthony from the University of Knickerbockers

Michelle Beadle-"I really like this pick-up"

Jalen Rose-"This will make Paul George happy"

Mark Jackson- "Mama there goes that man!"

Pacers Digest Sunshiners-"NBA title! Paul isn't going anywhere now!"

Pacers Digest Doom and Gloomers- "Carmelo Anthony?!?! Are you ****ing kidding me? I can see PG in a Lakers uni now, but what do I care? It will be the Seattle Pacers in a month!"

John Gruden-"Spider-2 Y Banana! There's a new sheriff in town!"

    Where's the OG option?

I'd like to see Bam, OG, or Justin Jackson, as a pipedream. I think Adebayo is the ideal pairing with Turner in terms of play style and potential.

EDIT: I suppose OG may be classified as a SF...

    My realistic big board:
    1. Harry Giles
    2. OG Anunoby
    3. Bam Adebayp
    4. Terrance Ferguson
    5. Jarrett Allen

I intentionally left OG out in this scenario, as I thought he would be the runaway winner, and has a skill-set that sets himself apart from the others and a positional flexibility that gives him an advantage. I also think him and Zach Collins will be off the board. I was more curious to see how people differed in their opinions of these PFs/Cs that are very scattered in the mid- late- 1st round mock projections.

Well I guess we're not trading that pick now. And suddenly SF is the position of need.

Hoping for Justin Jackson here if we are indeed trading PG later on and dont get a top 3 pick in this draft.

The only player who has potential to be a solid role player is Harry Giles.

Too worried about Giles health, though his potential is definitely intriguing. Would also love OG, but without him on the list, Anigbogu is my preference.

I'm even more inclined to roll the dice on Giles health now that we are probably bringing in more picks, the potential payoff could be huge so late in the first.

Anigbogu's potential health issues are questionably worse...

Luke Kenard. He is the future Gordan Heyward. I know its not a popular thing. But he is. I stand by this like my past posts. Luke Kenard.

I want to point this out. And this is a very iffy way to qualify an opinion, but i'm qualifying it. I'm a huge College Basketball fan. I watch a ton of it. I probably watched 17 or so Duke games last year. Duke has a lot of great players. Giles, Tatum and Kenard are projected in the top 20. And Grayson Allen was on that team last year too. The second half of the season, Duke had to win some games. They really needed to string some wins together. Even in the Conference tournament. The guy that rose above all that talent was Luke Kenard. I watched it. I was blow away. Jason Tatum, i dont even remember most the time. Grayson was good. Giles presented a nice presence in the paint, but Kenard was the leader. Kenard had the talent. He raised his game more than anyone on that team.

I'm just saying. This guy is really good. I think he's better than Hayward.

Luke Kennard is indeed really good. He'll also be gone an hour before the 18th pick. There's a reason he isn't in the poll.

I really like Bam Adebayo in the late first round. Untapped potential there.
