Default If we do a trade, when is it likely to happen?

Just wondering what to expect and when to expect it. Will any trade most likely happen before the draft June 28?

I read something about the potential lockout causing early trades. Any comments there?

By what date can we expect little chance of a trade? August?

Will any pre-draft trade take place just before--like hours or a couple days--or could we see something in the next week?

Can trades be made minutes before our draft choice?

Most likely something will be "set up" prior to the draft & announced sometime that evening.

When is the Chicago pre-draft camp. Rumors usually start getting hot and heavy during that

The forum party is July 16, right? I think that's the date of an Pacers trade.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Speculation suggests draft night and maybe a day or 2 before and after it could be more busy than usual with trades because of the lockout threat. Who knows what will really happen. But I think it's reasonable. Past that, we traded Al for Jack the night of the forum party last year. When was that, July?

    Are you going btw?
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

When' the draft? July 1? That's the last day of Bender's career as a Pacer
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

June 28th, they have to have it in before July 1.

I'm betting if we do something it will be anyhwhere from 3 days prior until draft night. so June 25-28.

If we do a trade involving our draft pick it will be right around the draft. If we do a major trade involving one of our starters it will be . . . I'll have to look some dates up.

That was a lot of trouble! First of all I went up to calendar on this site. When you see calendar on a Pacer's forum you would expect to see dates that are important to the Pacers. What do we find, members birthdays? I guess that is okay, but I personally would rather have a calendar that has to do with the Pacers and NBA.

Not finding what I was looking for here I had to stop and think where I could find what I wanted. The official NBA site was out. Like most sites they like to play around and change it all the time. I know for a fact I could spend hours looking for what I want there, it's happened before.

I then remembered a site that had what I wanted, Patricia's Various Basketball Stuff site, but I didn't know the address. However I did remember that Larry Coons CBA FAQ, site had her Internet address. Trouble was Pacer's digest has links to a bunch of sites, but not to Coons.

Ha . . . Pacer's Digest does have Realgm's site which has Coon's Internet address. Of course I didn't need Pacer's Digest for RealGM since the address is the same as the name.

When I got to Realgm, another site that moves things around, it took me 5 minutes to fine Larry Coons address. It used to be down the left side on the main screen but now the address is . . . elsewhere. Okay, here's the date's I found on Patrica's site,

    ----------
    http://www.dfw.net/%7Epatricia/nba-daily/dates.txt
    Important Dates for 2004-05

    2005
June 7-10 Predraft camp in Chicago
June 7 Earliest possible start for the NBA Finals
June 21 Early entry draft withdrawal deadline
June 23 Latest possible end for the NBA Finals
    June 28 2005 NBA Draft
June 30 The current CBA expires. If a new CBA is not signed
by this date, a lockout will occur and be in place
until a new CBA is signed and the following events
    will be postponed or canceled.
July 1 *Free agency date - all 2004-05 contracts officially
end. Teams may start negotiating with, but not
    signing, free agents.
    July 6 - 15 #Las Vegas Summer League
July 8 - 23 #Southern California Summer Pro League (Long Beach)
(may still occur if lockout as league includes non-NBA
    sponsored teams)
July 15 *Teams can start signing free agents and make trades.
July 15 - 23 #Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League (Salt Lake City)
October 3 *Training camp media day
    October 4 *Training camp begins

    * if a new CBA (Collective Bargaining agreement) is not signed by
June 30, will be postponed until a new CBA is signed

    # if a new CBA is not signed by event date, will likely be canceled
    ----------

So . . . to finish my answer, if we do a major trade involving one of our starters it will be between July 15 and the start of training camp on Oct. 4th. The majority of trades being close to those two dates.

Now that I answered the question I want to address the Pacer's Digest calendar again. Instead of birthdays, I think it should be a calendar that has Important dates for the Pacer's. For instant the dates up above like Patrica has, plus important dates in Pacer's history. For instance when player's, coach's and important office personnel are hired, fired, drafted, traded, injured.

    What do you think Hicks?

I personally think that is a great idea as long as all the work for it doesn't get pushed off onto the people that are already doing all the work to make this place great for us. I would suggest that everyone have the ability to post items to a community calendar, but that would open it up for all kinds of silly posts, like the dates of Sassan's latest identity incarnation being banished, etc.....(I can see it now: The Date That Peck Lost His Virginity To Dale Davis In A Local Men's Room, June 9, 2005) (Was that too much!?)

If we could keep it legit, it would be nice if everyone could contribute. Kinda tough to have everyone bottleneck Hicks with the dates that they want shown and then wait for him to slave for us.....

That's still up for "negotiations", so I'm not going to comment until closer.

Will I got half way through your post when I decided to make an upgrade. Check out our links now. (May have to refresh it)

After I did that, I came back and read the part about the calander. That sounds like a good idea. I thought anyone could already add to it, I'll need to check. If not, I'll switch it so that can be done and then whomever remembers or wants to have us remember certain Pacers events can put them in.

I just tried using a non-admin account, and sure enough, the calander is open for use. Just go to the top right where it says Add New Event, click that, and click Recurring Event. That way you can set it to be a yearly calander event if it's something like "Day the ABA Pacers won 3rd title" or something. You can enter a title message that appears on the calander display, and then a more in-depth explanation/story that can be read by clicking on the title message.

For a test, check out what I wrote for today's date. It's dumb, but it gives you an idea of how it works.
