Default With or without Brown...Detroit will still be tough to beat

When I did my "true/false" thread last week, one of the questions I asked was "will the Pacers get past the Pistons next year?"

Many answered "true" and said that Brown's probable departure was their reason for stating this.

I don't think things will be that much easier for the Pacers at all.

Ok, I know Brown is a great coach. He is obviously a huge part of them keeping their mentality straight, winning the 04 title, and now he has them on the verge of another. I give Larry a ton of credit.

But at this point, these players know what they have to do. The Pistons are 10-0 since 02-03 in games where they can close a series out. These guys know how to beat teams. They toy with you. They let you take the lead in a series even, but in the end, they beat you. The Wallace's, Rip, Chauncey and Prince know how to do it.

What I'm saying is, I don't care if it's Larry Brown or Kstat on the sidelines for Detroit next year. They'll be no easier to beat for the Pacers. The Pacers THEMSELVES are going to have to beat Detroit by taking their games to the highest level, not rely on a Piston coaching change to make things easier for them.

As good as Brown is, he won't last another year. The players all respect him, but at the same time its not the months of May and June you worry about, its the months of december and january.

Brown still won't be back next year. The Cavs fiasco sealed his fate there.

After tonight, I can't argue with you.

I've never seen a Pistons team this mentally tough. Not even the Bad Boys were this good in the clutch so consistently.

Coming from 5 down in the 4th qtr to win game 7 on the road in the conference finals.....you just dont DO that. That's unheard of.

    Agreed

Is Rip Hamilton a top 10 player in the NBA? Probably not

But there aren't many players I'd rather have in the clutch. He does what it takes for the TEAM to win. He helped do what it took to win an NCAA title.....He did what it took to win an NBA title

    He may do it again.

Rip played the entire game tonight, and had 22 points and 7 assists, on 11/16 shooting. He hit a ton of big shots.
