Default Does anyone know who we are looking at draftwise?

I know the draft issue has been bandied about in other threads, but after scouring the net for any possible scrap of information I still have yet to hear any news on players the Pacers have even worked out. I remember a couple years ago Pacers.com was rife with pre -draft workout info, replete with pictures of John Salmons, Kareem Rush and Jiri Welsch et al, the year we ended up taking Freddie.
I have been on http://nbadraft.net/index.asp and www.draftcity.com plus hoopsworld.com which all have up to date minutia on foreign tournaments, private workouts, whose exercising with which trainer, blah blah. But, alas, not a scrap on who the Pacers even think will be available. I know Bird likes to be coy, but you can't really hide which guys you have in for workouts, can you?
I have read that Joey Graham has been a workout wonder, but he would seem to be a younger Artest (skillwise) with perhaps a better mid-range jumper. Sean May and Hakim Warrick, while both very intriguing, are best equipped to play power forward which is our strongest starting position.
I know a lot of people are on board with a trade or package with the pick for a veteran who can immediately help us. However, if those don't pan out and we're on the clock at 17, do we go for the best slasher/shooter available or is there going to be a situation where a Wayne Simian or other college forward is so much better than whats available that we take them anyway?

I really think he's going to trade for a scoring guard. If that's his idea, he will take a front court player in the draft to replace the one he intends to enclude in a trade.

For example he could pick May or Simian in the draft. Then he could include Foster in a trade along with Jackson, for Allen or Redd.

Is there any point in a discussion? The Pacers never pick who anyone thinks they're gonna pick. Hell, the guy they pick rarely even gets mentioned.

I can't think of the last time we heard about a pick before we picked him.

    Harrison? No.
    Freddy? No.
    Tinsley? No.
    Foster? No.
    Bender? No.
    Al? No.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

See, but the year we picked Freddy everyone was saying we would get a shooting gaurd, they just thought it would be Kareem Rush. The year we got Tinsley we knew we needed a point gaurd and it wasn't very surprising that Isiah wanted to groom one. With Harrison we spent the summer mulling over the Marc Blounts and Eric Dampiers (thank God no) of the free agent market to complement Jermaine, so that wasn't really that surprising either from a position standpoint. So, I guess that is the gist of my question. If we can't fulfill it in a trade, do you think we are targeting a specific position or are we already so balanced that we can afford to take the proverbial best player available?

I recall lots of pre-draft Tinsley talk.

But I also recall dating Tyra Banks, and I'm not entirely sure that happened.

You are absolutely correct on the pre-draft Tinsley talk that year.
Can't veriify on the Tyra Banks score.

I'm thinking we rule out the players that we hear the Pacers' have worked out.

It was clear going into the draft that the Pacers were in love with Tinsley... many of us were frustrated that it took so long to announce the trade with Atlanta and we were afraid BK left us at the altar.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

The Pacers are bringing me in for a workout next week.

[Note: that's one down, about 500 left to rule out.]

This is all presuming that we keep the pick. For all we know it could be shipped with Bender to the Lakers.

Well apparently the Pacers have already worked out Granger and are bringing
Diogu in on the 16th. Soooo, we can rule them out, theoritically speaking.

We were heavily rumored to take Cro in '97, since he was white and we'd just hired Larry Bird. I fell in love with Austin his senior year at Providence, and I was so excited when we took him. God, I feel like an idiot.

[edit] I also seem to remember on draft night in '95 the TV guys saying we would take Travis. That's all I can think of.

He didn't go bald. They made him shave his head his rookie year. He's still waiting for it to grow back.

we can make this simple....trade the 17 and austin croshere to atlanta for their second round pick in this years or next years draft...

and concentrate on getting jj and dd resigned....and j williams signed as the 3rd guard....then work on obtaining sarunas or bobby jackson.....

Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.
