    Default What about Joe Johnson?

With all the talk about Ray Allen or Michael Redd, what about Joe? Of the 3, he's probably the least likely to earn a max contract, though he may himself get one. He shot 47% from 3 this year, averaged 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists as their small forward, but he can clearly play shooting guard. He's 6-7, 230lbs, and showed how good he is during these playoffs.

This isn't so much about how we'd get him, or why it would happen, but mainly about how he could be a great fit here, I think.

I'll throw this out, but perhaps you could get him for Jack and expiring contracts. If he wants to stay in PHO, it's a moot point, but if he's interested in heading somewhere else, we could try to get him via a sign-and-trade deal.

Yes, I would like to get him, but I think he prefers to stay in Pheonix. However, if Amare is really asking(forcing...) for a center, they will have to trade someone. May be a three way trade...

I would still prefer Allen over him, mainly because Im a huge Ray Allen fan but Joe Johnson would be a great fit. First off he shoots a high percentage, hes big two guard who can post up, take you off the dribble, good shooter and can defend. He really doesn't have any real weakness and his upside is huge. He will not be easy to get if he becomes available.

Since you brought up the fact he'll probably command a max deal can Pheonix afford to pay him. They have Stoudamire coming up, Nash I think has close to a max deal and Marion already had a max deal. There might not be enough money to go around. So would Pheonix make Shawn Marion or a Joe Johnson available for the right price?

    I'd trade Artest for him.
You, Never? Did the Kenosha Kid?

Seeing as how they need a center, Jax + Foster seems appropriate.

Artest, Foster, and Freddie for Joe Johnson and a pick of some sort.

    Think they'd do it?

I'd give Jay's left nut to sign Joe Johnson.

He might be willing to give the whole package for his fifteen new players.

Your gonna have to throw in the right one, to get this deal done.

Joe Johnson has been one of my favorites the past couple seasons... he really can do it all. He can play 3 or 4 positions effectively ,,,,Offensively he can score from anywhere on the court, and in a variety of ways.... he's got great vision, poise and maturity. He's an excellent defender, who got stuck guarding the oppossing teams best perimeter player night in and night out. But still put up efficient offensive numbers.

He's not a nutcase, cocky, or a primadonna... he's doesn't do alot of jawing at the officials or oppossing players. He generally keeps his mouth shut and simply plays ball.

I think Phoenix will do what they can to keep him.... they should have extended his contract last summer when they were only 5million short of what he wanted.... now they'll pay him close to a max deal or someone else will.

I really don't want Joe Johnson... Artest is certainly better. Jackson and Johnson are pretty much a wash in my opinion, with the edge going to Johnson, but I'd do the trade if we threw in one of our many centers... Foster makes the most sense because he can run...

I hear Shawn Marion is most likely on the way out... He might fit here as well... I think we talked about this last offseason though, so maybe its not worth discussing again

It also looks like Johnson may be unattainable for a reasonable price anyway:
"Cleveland, the Los Angeles Clippers and Atlanta are expected to have the most interest in Johnson, who wanted a six-year, $50 million deal before the season. Managing owner Robert Sarver did not offer more than $45 million but Johnson could wind up with a contract worth $10 million annually. A new collective bargaining agreement may cut the contract length to five years. "It's our intention to keep our core together." Colangelo said" - Arizona Republic

    A reasonable deal.

The biggest difference between getting Redd or Allen and getting Johnson is that in Johnston's case both parties want him to stay a Sun. That makes the price of getting him higher.

And the best part is at the end of the post he puts, Think they'd do it? I love how people on here who hate Artest make up some dumb trades that make our team worse just so they can get rid of him.
