Default Jay Williams wants to play for the Pacers among other teams?

My apologies if this has already been posted.

Jay Williams on the comeback trail

    NBA teams, take note.
The surprise at ATTACK Athletics on Monday was former Bulls point guard Jay Williams. He held his own against two of the fastest guys in the draft, Raymond Felton and Dee Brown. His shot is better than ever. He's cutting and jumping. He went full steam for an entire hour with Felton and Brown and looked just fine.

Williams said after the workout that everything is coming back to him and he's hoping to be in an NBA training camp this fall. Grover concurred, asserting that if things go according to schedule, Williams will be ready to play next season.

That's amazing progress for a guy who's been playing basketball full-time for only six weeks.

"Right now it's more mental that physical," Williams said. "I'm still not secure in myself. The doctors have cleared me to play. Now it's about getting back the confidence I need to be a great player. When I think about it, I sometimes doubt. However, when I'm going one-on-one with Dee Brown, my basketball instincts kick in and I play just fine."

"I don't want to come back and be an average player. I know some people think that it would still be great if I did that. I know I could do that right now. But that's not what I'm trying to do. I want to be an All-Star and play at an All-Star level."

Williams said he has a handshake deal with the Bulls to give them the right of first refusal after seeing him work out. He doesn't think it's likely that they'll sign him, however, with Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon thriving in Chicago. If Chicago is not an option, he's hoping to land with a veteran team with title aspirations, such as the Spurs, Pacers or Timberwolves.

I would absolutely love to take a chance on him at the right price.

I hope he's been practicing his free throw shooting...

This would be great. I mean absolutely great.

If he could come in & play at 1/3 of what it looked like he was going to be then I would say sign him today.

Between him & Tinsley maybe we could get a full healthy season.

Actually U.B. should love this guy even more than me because he is more of a scorer than I'm used to.

well he would definitely be worth a look...id give him eddie gills spot right now....ill remain a bit skeptical till we actually see some proof....he was a phenomenal talent before....but anyone that saw those pics...yuk...

then its gonna be all about the benjamins....and i gotta be honest....if indeed the bulls are gonna get first refusal(which i think is just him being politically correct after they paid him a portion of his money when they didnt have to)i cant see them just rolling over and letting him sign with us(division rival) if hes that good....

hes been semi-auditioning/politicing for a job for quite some time.....if he can back it up with this supposed play and this isnt just some propaganda to help him get a gig.....then teams may line up to pay him...

Somehow I think he's gonna end up with the Spurs. They have magical powers picking up good role players on the cheap. That, and they'll have just won the championship.

Due to Indiana's cap situation, the only way we could get him would be to either not sign one of Dale Davis or James Jones, or trade trade some players that would end with us giving more than getting. Then we'd have to sign Jay Williams for the minimum. But you know what, it's very nice to see HIM actually list us as a possible destination.

actually, the pacers have the MLE....so they can sign him....or anyone else that would make up to 5 million/ year.....and JJ/dd status has nothing to do with that ....we are far over the cap....and no way to get under the cap....unless u traded jermaine for a draft pick to atlanta....and even that wouldnt be quite enuff....trade bender to charlotte for a draft pick as well then u can do it....anyway..doesnt matter...us getting him will really have no bearing with what we do with dale and jj...except from a luxury tax situation....our payroll is starting to get a bit out of hand

anyway....i find it hard to believe anyone will pay j will 5 million to play right now....hes been out of the game along time....and coming back from such a severe injury....it should be interesting....

am i the only one that thinks that whoever wrote that is working for jwills agent??? i mean if that doesnt sound like posturing to get a full MLE out of someone i dont know what would be....

i loved jwills game...and to think we could somehow get that sort of player..well...but still...managed expectations....i would hope larry would take a look real soon...

The guy's been through a lot. He wants to prove himself and the only way he does that is to get back into the game. He's on the outside looking in. For that reason, I'll bet he doesn't sign for more than a year at pretty close to the minimum or the lower exception (if it still exists after the new agreement). Then, it's up to him to prove himself and get the bigger contract the following year.

Jay will sign with any team that he can get playing time on. Probably a 2-year deal.

My guess is he'll sign with Houston, if for no other reason that Houston will be able to say they have the #1 and #2 picks of the 2002 draft....

Yes, there needs to be. If anyone can find the link, I'll edit it into the post.

I would love it if we brought Jay in for our training camp. If we like him, we can cut Eddie Gill to make room.

Once again we are mentioned. Every FA or trade candidate lists the PAcers as a place to go. Not because they really want to but because we're always just one player away and they want everyone to believe they are that one player. Scare the other aGM's into bargaining more.

Is Gill still on contract? I thought we only signed him for a year.

the more i read it...the more it looks like a press release from his agent....forget that premature MLE talk...or any part of it...

theres some tricky wording in there....who says he held his own? and what does that mean??? hell, he couldve been holding his own.........uh knee....

shot looks better than ever...hmmm...what does that mean???

if he was so great, why would there be any need to hope to be in a camp?....if he was playing at the same level as the other two there would be no question....

It says it's by Chad Ford when you click on the link from the ESPN article, 'Chicago pre-draft camp day 1 by Chad Ford' or something like that.

I don't think he will be signing with the Spurs. There is no way he will get minutes there playing behing Parker, Beno, and Brent Barry.

I'd take a chance on him. You know he's gonna play his *** off if he makes it back into the league. You don't go through all he went through and not bust your *** to prove yourself again, to others, and to yourself.
