Default Pacers trade you hated the most

There has been a lot of discussion lately about past Pacers trades. So I thought it would be fun to have a thread discussing your favorite Pacers trade and the trade you hated the most. I'd really like to discuss what you thought at the time the trade was made. Did you like the trade at the time

Let me list some of the big trades in the last dozen years or so.

    Detlef for McKey

Person and Michael Williams for Sam Mitchell and Pooh Richardson

    Antonio Davis for Bender

Brad Miller and Mercer for Pollard, Danny Ferry

    Dale Davis for J.O

    Al Harrington for Jackson

Jalen Rose and Best for Ollie, Mercer, Brad Miller, and Artest

Malik Sealy and Piatkowski for Mark Jackson (was that the trade)

What did we give up to get Foster. Was it Vontiego Cummings and a future draft pick.

    Herb Wiliams for Detlef

    Tisdale for Tank and Wittman.

How did we get Jalen Rose. I forget.

Well I think that is enough.

My favorite without question was the Jalen for Brad Miller and Artest. When that trade became official that was a great day. There were no doubts in my mind that it was the right trade at the right time.

The trade I hated the most at the time was not Detlef for Mckey, I liked that trade. The trade I hated the most was the Antonio for Bender trade. I loved having two Davis' and I've never liked trading an established player for a player straight from HS, especially when the Pacers were close to a championship. Of course some 6 years later the trade has not worked out, but regardles of that, at the time I did not like that trade.

Peck, you can only choose one (no you can choose as many as you want). Let me say this about the Dale Davis trade. That was the most shocking. I remember where I was when I heard it. In a hotel room at Cedar Point and I heard it while watching CNN Headline News channel. It was a short blurb and I was not really paying attention to the TV, but I heard something about DD traded and I heard the name of Jermaine O'Neal. I hated to see DD traded, but I really wanted J.O. He was a guy who from what I saw from his limited time at Portland, I thought he was going to be a very good player.
That trade was never rumored, although there were some rumors of the Pacers having some interest in J.O.

Detlef for McKey. I hated that trade.

Brad Miller and Mercer for Pollard, Danny Ferry, wasn't a trade in my book. It was a face saving gesture.

Didn't we get Jalen from the Nuggets for Mark Jackson and scraps (Eddie Johnson maybe)?

Then we traded Denver some more scraps to get Mark Jackson back before the end of the next season.

Losing Brad Miller hurt like hell for me. But I also didn't like losing AD.

We got Jalen by sending Mark Jackson and someone else to Denver. I was 50/50 on that one.

Traded by the Nuggets with Reggie Williams and a 1996 first-round pick to the Indiana Pacers for Mark Jackson, Ricky Pierce and a 1996 first-round pick on 6/13/96

what about 2 classic trades of future all stars for questionable returns....

alex english for a very old and near retirement george mcginnis

alex went on to be a perennial allstar and scoring machine

    adrian dantley for james edwards

ad went on to become a great scorer and all star as well...

Brad Miller and Mercer for Pollard, Danny Ferry wasn't a trade in the traditional sense.

Chuck for Pooh and spare change. Easy.

A future (1984) #1 for Tom Owens was brutal, as was a future (1990) #1 for Bill Garnett and Terrence Stansberry.

Detlef for McKey. I know it worked out for us, but at the time it made me so mad, I couldn't look at Sports page, or anything basketball related for a few weeks. It's the most upset I've ever been with the Pacers.

I didn't mind the Detlef trade.

Chuck was allegedly traded away for chemistry reasons. But the chemistry didn't improve after the trade, and in-fact with Pooh it actually got worse.

Trading Detlef for McKey, and replacing Pooh with Workman and then trading Pooh for Jackson, then we had great chemistry.

I'm not sure Detlef was a "traditional" chemistry issue, although the Pacers made it clear that he didn't really want to be in Indy any more or play for Brownie. However, because he so versatile he either got in Reggie's way on the perimeter or in Rik's way in the paint. With him out of the picture, our court spacing improved which allowed the chemistry to get better.

Nothing that's happened in the Donnie era comes close to the old days (English, Owens, etc.)

I'll thrown one out that nobodies talked about. Dampier for Mullin. I didn't care for that one bit. Mullin was good at first, but by the end of that first season he was nothing but a roadblock in the way of Jalen. Knock Dampier all you want, but think about him backing up Rik against NY in '99 or against Shaq in 2000.

At the time, Stuart Gray for Leroy Combs killed me.

    I miss the big lug.

I think the Brad deal to the Kings would have to be #1.

Second verse: When you decide you don't want a player, and you get other players in exchange for dumping him, that is a trade.

If you count the Brad Miller saga as a trade than that one would be number one on my list.

At the time I didn't really mind the trade for the draft pick that cost us AD and brought us Bender. I really had high hopes for Bender.

Looking back UB may have been right about the AD for #5 pick, but that's a little too easy for me, because what if Bender would have panned out as projected or we would have chosen say Shawn Marion? Than it would have been a great deal to have made.

I didn't hate the Brad Miller trade itself since it served its purpose of gettting a player in return instead of nothing. However, I hated how we gave away Mercer's and Hedo's favorable contracts for Ferry's ending contract only to sit on it and pay Ferry to enjoy retirement...

The Pacers traded Jackson, Ricky Pierce, and a pick to Denver for Reggie Williams and Jalen Rose on June 13, 1996.

The Pacers then traded Vincent Askew, Eddie Johnson, 97 and 98 second round draft picks for Mark Jackson and Old Pacer Lasalle Thompson on Feb. 20, 1997.

The trade I hated the most was the Brad Miller trade in 2003.

    Let me reverse this thread

What was your favorite Pacers trade?

Mine at the time would be the one made with the Bulls in 2002. But we didn't have ANYTHING to show for that this season with Artest suspended and Miller long gone.

We also got Denver's pick (#10) and used it to draft Dampier.

Favorite trade? Probably Herb Williams for Schrempf. An outright steal on a straight-up trade.

Second favorite: Pooh, Malik and the draft rights to Piatkowski for Jackson and the later-voided draft rights to Greg Minor.

How did we get Corky Calhoun again? Sure he sucked, but any trade that nets a player named Corky Calhoun deserves honorable mention. I think he was part of the Johnny Davis trade, wasn't he?
