    Talking Senile and confussed

Why would a team want to trade down in the draft, Sorrry but it don't make much sense. The higher you can pick the more choices you have? Can someone help this old senile man?

Don't the lower picked players get paid less? (A cap-saving move?)

Sometimes a team can get 2 picks instead of one to fill needs. I agree with you though.

You trade down if you think you can get the player you want lower in the draft, therefore costing you less money, plus the other team is almost certainly throwing something else in to move up. Rarely if ever would someone just straight-up swap say, the #10 pick for the #17. Whoever had #17 would have to throw in a future pick, or a player. So if you were the one with the #10 pick, and you were sure your guy would drop to #17, you trade down to pay him less, and get either another future pick, or a player, along with it.

Some teams don't want a 1st-rd pick at all. They think their team is pretty well set and a 1st rounder is guaranteed money and takes up a roster spot. So they'd much rather have, say, the 33rd pick than 28th.

    Cool Re: Senile and confussed

Thanks to everyone, I know that the 2nd is not a gauranteed contract, but when a team trades say a 3 for a 17 are not they still gauranteed a contract?
