Amare's never going to be a good defensive player so long as he plays center. He's fast, but he doesn't have the lower-body strength to match up against most true post players. He's a natural power forward, not a center.
Everyone knows he is not a center and is playing out of his natural position.

No matter what position he was playing, so many times he would just watch a Spurs player drive in for a layup while he was just a few feet away, making no effort at all to help on D. Maybe it's just the way Phoenix plays, but it drove me crazy.
