To be a great player several things are needed. However, the one thing all great players have in common is their mental approach. They have the will to win, a desire to be the best, and a work ethic to go with it. They are also mentally tough and know the game. Jordan, Bird, Magic, all the great ones have this.

Speed, height, and athletic ability are also requisites in varying degrees. There are no slow, 5'8 inch plodders in the NBA.

One of the things that contributed to Jordan's greatness and is often overlooked was his huge hands. Huge hands make basketball a bit easier, just like speed, height, and athletic ability do.

So if you are looking for the next Jordan look at his hands too.

    Well said.

Kobe's the closest to MJ for numerous reasons. Body type, athleticism, skills and ability all track. Kobe's always tries to act like Jordan, too. He's nowhere near as clutch as MJ, but he has his moments. Anyone who disagrees obviously didn't sit through overtime of game 4 of the 2000 finals.

But Kobe doesn't have one-tenth of the heart Jordan did, which is why he'll never get close to Jordan's legacy.

It also doesn't help he's become an almost Jalen-esque defender. All the ability in the world, but he doesn't work at it anymore.

I think Kobe Bryant has the most talent in the NBA right now, and could be the best player in the game if he had a little mroe heart.

I think everyone has to admit that Dwyane Wade has heart. This kid has shown it all these playoffs.
