Default Brian Hill reportedly going back to Orlando

    I'm surprised nobody's posted this:

    Hill coached Magic from 1993-96

The Orlando Magic's search for a new head coach has led them back to a familiar face.

Two league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford on Monday that the Magic will hire Brian Hill as their new head coach.

Hill coached the Magic during their heyday years from 1993-1996 and compiled a 191-104 record during his stint. He is the only Magic head coach to ever lead the Magic to an NBA Finals appearance.

The team also flirted with Flip Saunders, Eric Musselman and Chris Ford but in the end, felt that the experience, discipline and familiarity with the organization made Hill the man for the job. He should be a popular choice with the fans in Orlando and bring a different type of spirit to the organization.

The hiring of Hill might be the first step in helping fans forget the last few dark years and start remembering the golden age when Hill, Shaq and Penny were on top of the world. Hill is currently an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets.

Might seem strange, but hey, Marchibroda came back to the Colts.

Personally, I think this is a great move. I've said that I think Frank did a much better job this year with the Nets, which I was sure was in no small measure due to his new assistants, Brian Hill and Bill Cartwright.

The most important word in the article above is discipline. Steve Francis needs, hell, he's dying for a coach to knock some sense into him. Sometimes people get the impression JVG is a discipline coach. He's not. Nowhere near one. Just look back at him and Spree.

Brian Hill doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves for those Shaq teams. Besides Shaq, Penny, and Grant, that roster was ****. If MJ hadn't come back, they would have obliterated Seattle in '96, and maybe Shaq wouldn't have run away to the west. But instead, Shaq left and Penny pulled a Kobe on Hill.

Everybody was talking up Orlando this year, but I was never concerned. Even with Grant playing so well and Howard looking so good, I knew they'd fall apart. Now, I have no problem putting the Magic on the same level as Chicago next year. Somebody has to take Washington's place when they lose all their FA's.

[edit] It should also be noted that, ironically, Francis forcing that awful draft day trade to Houston destroyed the Grizzlies, which lead to Hill becoming the fall guy and being canned a month into the season.

Talk about back in the day, lol. Not sure about this move, there are just so many better canidates.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."
