With Magic's stupid eye winking and drooling, he showed his hand and made it clear he wants Paul George to launch the Lakers franchise. Boston needs him to win Championships. You put Boston and LA against each other until someone blinks.
Yeah, Magic really did come across as a complete classless clown doing that.

Yeah. The more and more I thought about it, the more it started to annoy me to my soul. I'm racking my brain to recall if any other GM has ever done that. That should be tampering at its finest. In one moment, he announced to the world that the Lakers want him which caused additional pressure on the Pacers to make some serious moves. Indiana is already under enough pressure with the overall Paul George situation, but that added more fuel to the fire.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

I just hated the whole "I can giggle and wink link a clown on national TV after being GM of the Lakers for about 5 minutes because I'm the lovable Magic Johnson and no one will get on me" vibe to it.

I know a lot of people didn't like Bird's crass and blunt delivery at times, but at least he didn't wink like a fool on national TV in a blatant attempt to take away someone else's star who is under contract. I think Bird respected the seriousness of the job and the other franchises, where as Magic clearly has a "I'm Magic and I'm running the Lakers, so I can do what I want" attitude.

Yeah, I have no idea whatsoever how that isn't tampering. I guess since he didn't talk directly to PG, but that's a pretty out-of-date definition if so.

Honestly, for all the back and forth we do on this board between posters, I REALLY don't envy the Pacers FO. Their backs are so far up against the walls already, and we got damn Magic smiling at Pacers fans like the Chester Cat and looking into the camera like "You know that you all are going to lose Paul George to us, right?". Aargh!

Kind of makes you wonder if Paul would be willing to sign an extension if it guaranteed another player coming....

"Hey Heyward or KD or Griffen or whoever....If you sign with the Pacers, I will stay....Let's build a super team like those big three did in Miami...."
"Oh and while we're at it, let's all take major pay cuts to make it happen....K...."

So yeah, that last part will never happen, but at some point, you have to think...Mamba, Lebron, Nowitski, Duncan...They would all meet/help recruit talent to their respective teams. With the draw of meeting/playing for Larrylegend gone, Paul might need to step up his involvement too....

You get the right "Stars" here, and those role players will come a knocking, just asking to be on the team and have a chance to play on a contending team....

As much as I would like to see this, Paul gives me the impression that he goes about his summer doing whatever, and he leaves it up to the front office. Granted, it IS the front office's responsibility to bring free agents, but I feel having the franchise player involved in some of the meetings does help the process a little bit.

Let's also not forget, it was Danny Granger who convinced Larry to draft Paul after working out with him during the off-season...Everybody needs a little help now and then....

True that. Makes me wonder where Paul George would have fallen to if the Pacers didn't draft him. Statistically, Paul George didn't impress me, but his body control looked soooooo good in the YouTube videos I watched of him. He reminded me so much of T-Mac at the time given his frame and basketball mechanics.

What position does Chester Cat play?
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I think the Boston vs Cavs series is the key here. If Boston gets crushed, then they have to decide if they are one piece away or not ( and i think they are ). Then LA has to decide that also about Boston and make a decision to go for it now or wait til PG is a FA.
The Cavs series has zero to do with the future. They know they aren't winning this year or even next. The owner was on the radio today saying it as fact.

There is no chance Boston gives anything relevant for a rental unless that player is Lebron James. Especially when they can get Hayward for free.

Woof, not a fan of that strategy. Injuries and draft picks not panning out worry me too much to wait 2 years. Even when the window seems big it can disappear real quick. There are many examples.

If I'm Celtics I would 100% trade that #1 pick if I could get Jimmy or PG. And if dealing with Pacers I think they could offer it straight up and Pacers would have to take it. Celtics could win a chip with a guy that can legit matchup with Lebron, you think PG goes to the Finals then leaves Boston?

You don't trade the #1 pick on a hunch. They didn't trade for KG until he guaranteed them he'd re-sign, and that was only for the #5 pick.

If Paul wants to be a Celtic he'll tell them he wants to sign a long term contract as soon as he gets his jersey. If that doesn't happen there is nothing to talk about.

Hey, I'm not saying there's no risk. All I'm saying is I think the Celtics with PG can win you a chip next season. It's what I would do, I don't expect everyone to agree.

I have been thinking about possible out comes for the Cavs vs the GSW and whether or not the Cavs will sit still if they get beaten by the GSW.

Kevin Love is the weak link and if he shrinks again in the series then I have to figure the Cavs will trade him.

If I'm the Celtics, I'm not sure I trade the number 1 pick for PG even if he guarantees he'll re-sign with Boston. I don't think that's enough to get past Lebron in the next couple years. I'd almost rather have the cheaper young prospect with the "what if" factor.

While I agree they still can't beat Lebron.. it would be hard for me not to pull the trigger on that.

Now if you're talking about getting PG+Extension then trading Smart/Bradley/Crowder/Nets 18 to secure Butler.. that's something Ainge would have to seriously discuss. When's the right time to cash in?

I think it would be smarter to move Crowder, Smart/Brown, and one of the Nets picks in addition to their own. Leaves Cs with a balanced roster that's ready to win. I think Bradley is much more important than one of these guys because of their window. Timing is crucial in the NBA.

I know the situations are different, but Butler's response is just so much better. I'm already over this PG drama.

The difference between Butler and PG

It's really not that hard to answer it like Butler. PG couldn't have made it anymore obvious that he's entertaining the Lakers hard, IMHO.
