Thread: Did anybody see the Indy Star Picture..

Default Did anybody see the Indy Star Picture..

A kid had a sign that said "Lord of No Rings" and a picture of Reggie.

It was definitely a creative poster, but man... that is harsh. To parade that poster in his own gym during his last year. Wow.

I sure hope that fires those guys up a bit!

I always find it amusing how a Pistons fan can dislike Reggie. If not for him, there would be no Rip.

Maybe I'm just sensitive to it because it's MY sports 'hero' as a kid, but damn what a punk. I'd never do that to say, Stockton. Maaaaaaaaaaaybe Malone. Mainly because of the injuries he's caused though. I remember how stunned I was a few years ago when Isiah was coach and the showed the time he bloodied his forehead badly. Man that fired me up.

I agree that was classless. Just like the other article on sportsline.com a while ago, it's bad taste.

Yeah that just shows that his parents have not shown him how to be a good sport.

Good Lord guys it's just a sign. A very good one I might add as far as creativity goes, but to blame his parents...

I doubt very seriously that Reggie even took notice, if he did and it affects his game or his attitude during a game then those are issues that Reggie needs to deal with.

But I really think that Reggie is a little more mature than that. Lets at least hope so.

This kid is a fan of an opposing team that made it here for the game. How about all of you that have contributed, even on here, when someone would be going to a Pacer game on the road and would ask advice on what they should write for a sign?

I chuckled, I thought it was funny, that's what it was meant to be. FUNNY!!!

Yeah, I can picture it now......

Reggie: You know, after the last game, I was thinking of just giving up. We don't stand a chance in game 5.

Funny yes, smart no...Think about it. With the tensions that have went on this year I do wonder if mom and dad were prepared for possible insults tossed their son's direction because of this. The real world is getting uglier all the time and it's just not worth tempting fate IMHO.

I have to strongly disagree. Of course his parents were prepared for insults, heck just wearing the Piston's Jersey you need to be ready to have a couple thrown your way. Or at LEAST some good natured ribbing.

I honestly think that some on here are overreacting to a sign that didn't have profanity and didn't wish death. It was some good natured ribbing of an professional NBA player.

Like it or not guys it's A GAME, these guys get paid to play a GAME period. Along with playing a game you're going to sometimes have fans from an opposing team making fun.

Once again, if Reggie is affected by a SIGN that a 12 YEAR OLD was holding, then, man, Reggie has some growing up to do himself.

That is a funny post Kstat.

I don't think it would happen exactly like that, but I do think that if you are a competitor... things like that juice you up. Reggie has been motivated by Spike Lee for crying out loud, so why not a sign that is completely insulting. I also think that his team mates have to see things like that and get a little "win one for the Gipper" feeling going on.

Oh, I agree it is funny. The first thing I did when I saw the sign was to laugh b/c I have kind of a dark sense of humor. But when I thought about it, I personally would never walk in to another teams building with a sign like that. I just think it is disrespectful.

There was some drunk Celtic fan who was saying Paul Pierce owned Reggie in the bathroom at the last Pacer game I went to in Conseco. I mean, there is nothing wrong with rooting on your team, but when you are in the lion's den... keep the gloves up. One certainly doesn't have to subscribe to my ethics, I'm just giving you my

    Its clever.

    And its appropriate in Detroit.

That's all I'm going to say.

I'm not going to say that Pistons fans are rude, disrepectful, bullies, unwelcome, obnoxious, etc. even though I'd like to.

Its tough, sometimes, to bite my tongue about those low-life, worthless, embarassments to civilized society, but I'm going to. I'm not going to say any of that. I'll keep it to myself.

    Jerks.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I completely agree it's just a game, but you and I realize this and act accordingly. Some idiots don't. I've seen too many people get juiced up where they're ready to fight their own friends let alone someone they don't know.

Yes sir I totally agree with this. But we're just talking about a kid with a sign here. Not a bunch of "juiced up" fans that take this game more seriously than life itself.

Please don't get me wrong, I take Pacers basketball VERY serious, but if I had to choose between that and my family or my well being then it's obvious that I would pick the Pace...I mean my livelihood.

After sitting at a table in Hooters next to about 13 pistons fans right before the game Sunday, I'm a few more step ups on overgeneralizing about them. They were the biggest bunch of rude, obnoxious a holes that I've been around in quite some time. They're whole purpose was to **** people off, they even left the place with their hands in the air screaming detroit basketball like Mason.

Just because it's my luck, they were two sections over and just happened to be joined with about 30 other pistons fans. It got to the point where security escorted 3 of them out, only to the applaude of 5 sections.

Is this the Section 226/ 227 incident I was asking about in another thread?

I think 1/4 of the arena was cheering security for that one.

I blame it squarely on Indy being unable or unwilling to buy all the tickets to OUR home game. It's always been like that (Knicks fans, Bulls fans, Colts games are even worse at times) and is just part of the makeup of Indy fans. Offer them enough money and the tickets are yours.

Okay, I must say I was really fearful that it was gonna be ugly.

When I came into the arena I saw a group of about 5 Pistons fans holding signs and getting in people's faces. I thought it was gonna be bad. But surprisingly I had no fans in my section save for one middle aged man who behaved accordingly. Actually I figured during the game I would hear a lot of chants for the Pistons or lots of cheering, but I didn't seem to hear anything. So either our fans did a good job of drowning them out, or I'm deaf.

The latter is a true possibility, let this be a reminder to all you kids out there. Don't be in a rock band. FTC can probably attest to my hearing loss.
