Bomb squad explodes briefcase before Heat game
    Last Update: 5/9/2005 8:37:38 AM

MIAMI (AP) - A bomb squad exploded an unattended briefcase sitting next to a column near the entrance to Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena before the Heat-Wizards playoff game.

A bomb squad member wearing a 100-pound protective suit rigged the briefcase with a small explosive device. Once the aluminum case was blown open, police found audio equipment, most likely left by a news reporter.

The first arena employees were arriving for work about six hours before game time when police sealed off the area and diverted traffic in and out of the Port of Miami.

The squad detonates about 15 abandoned packages a month.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

Probably some 12 year old kid, or just some non-fan trying to get attention.

It was probably Dan LeBatard. He's stupid enough to leave his briefcase behind.

It was probably an Atlanta fan. No fan fo Miami would want to do something like this.

    How is that funny?

EDIT - don't answer. I won't be able to see it thanks to this handy feature called 'ignore'.

EDIT AGAIN - ahhhh..... that's better.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you
