    I did on this one.
To clarify: You have a good source on PG being gone or on Bird going to Simon and asking to spend to put better pieces around PG?

My thinking is that PG said he wants to leave and Bird doesn't want to go through another rebuild.
    "Another" rebuild?

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Since we're throwing out theories, how about this.

    Bird was fired.
That's too easy. Where's the fun in that, lol?

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

Lol, and I STILL stand behind that prediction. The paper that I was looking at before the season started was pretty and had cool designs on it.

The crazy part, it really was a non-homer prediction, and it was based solely on what i thought of the roster.
Yeah, as a "defense-first" proponent I watched us lose GHill, Mahinmi and Solo without getting anyone half-decent back and predicted 32 wins & mid-lottery

George being gone and that money was a significant issue - not only in surrounding George but him too. Conventional wisdom is All-NBA would mean Indy pays him but serious questions internally about the wisdom of them opening the vault for him.

Cant be fired if you really don't have a contract.

Gotta say though, I'm not crazy about Kevin Pritchard taking over as the president.

If that's the case, Paul George would be the second "victim" of the DPE with Cousins being the first. Honestly, I understand the idea behind it, but that really does seem like a lot of 💰 for a team that avoids the LT at all costs.

What if George wanted Bird gone?
That would be best case scenario
Larry Bird qouted March 25th. 2015:

Bird: I wanted to keep our group together because in the summer, if David and Roy opt out, we're back to zero, really. We don't have that much, so you leave your options open. If we did make a trade, I didn't want to take on a lot of contracts -- because that's what usually happens. Plus, I liked my guys. They're playing well. If we keep the core together and Paul comes back healthy, we'll be right back to where we were.

This kills PG's value- just make him play the season in front of the Fans and people he's leaving.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

This is dumb, who would you guys open the vault for ? Lebron James and Kevin Durant aren't walking through that door.

Btw, I don't think Bird resigns because PG is gone.

He resigns because he would have been forced to work out a trade for PG instead of stubbornly hold on him for one more season (...and lose for nothing)
I could see that being a possibility too. Bird is stubborn to a point. As I said before, George would have been gone if I was GM at the time of the trade deadline if the Boston rumor was true.

Well if they're trying to tank, they'll make him the focal point.

His value hasn't changed. He's got one year left and if he wants out he can steer himself to the team(s) he wants to play for. None of that is a new development.

It's still way better than his trade value a year from now, which will be zero.

I am glad Bird is gone, I wish Pritchard was gone with him. Pritchard made the Danny Granger trade that started this collapse, but he had to have Birds OK.

I would like to see a Pacer in the front office. Reggie of course would be a logical choice, But Danny might be a good team president, he will need some time training I am sure. Danny in the front office might even help keep PG.

I love what the Simons did for the Pacers but lets be honest we will never open the vault and go over the LT its just not going to happen.
