We waived an overpriced liability for us. I thought he could bring more for us, but he never did. If he could have spaced the floor better he would have been good but we just have too many redundant slashers that can't shoot 3s. Could this be the opening for Hansbrough I've been pining for?

Honestly, the writing was on the wall for Stuckey after his latest injury.

It's great to get out of his contract.

If he's healthy right now maybe he doesn't get waived. I'm glad he hurt his ankle again.

I've never seen a player get hurt more than Stuckey. Gets hurt, comes back, gets hurt, comes back, gets hurt, comes back, gets hurt.

It's the right thing to do and I hope that it's true. This gives Bird one more hail Mary this summer to build a contender around Paul George. If he takes the cap space and signs the next version of some past their prime players that don't fit together then it's over. I hope he at least swings for the fences this summer and makes a run at Hayward with this added cap space.

As far as Stuckey goes I liked what he did for the team when he was healthy and always valued him over Ellis. We would not have been a playoff team last year if not for the contributions of Stuckey early in the season. I wish him the best and I'll be rooting for him to recover and do well where ever he goes next.
Larry Bird qouted March 25th. 2015:

Bird: I wanted to keep our group together because in the summer, if David and Roy opt out, we're back to zero, really. We don't have that much, so you leave your options open. If we did make a trade, I didn't want to take on a lot of contracts -- because that's what usually happens. Plus, I liked my guys. They're playing well. If we keep the core together and Paul comes back healthy, we'll be right back to where we were.

He had a special contract where if he is waived before April 10th, his player option is void.

Ellis has the same contract but for next year (good trade chip). Only one like it in the league per Lowe.

CJ has it too, but obviously we won't use.

I would not mind Jimmer to tell you the true, my guess is this is opening the door for Lance.

I don't think Indiana waives Monta next season, but like someone said earlier....he makes one hell of a trade piece. Stuckey was a no brainier due to his injuries.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

I guess this now becomes the newest version of the bring back Lance thread. I seriously doubt if Larry even considers him.

We are not going to bring back Lance or any other player that has played in the NBA this season. That would be illogical since they would not be available for the playoffs.

We should bring in a player with NBA experience, that has not played in the NBA this season but has played somewhere so they are in basketball shape. While I would like to see Hansbrough on the team, he is not the logical choice. We need a wing.

I feel bad for Stuckey but this is a good move for the Pacers.

The original Stuckey signing was a great move. He played well his first season and even shot 39% from 3! The second signing was questionable. It would have been good at the time had we not signed Ellis, but since we signed Ellis first, so the Stuckey signing was bad. I guess if he stayed healthy and continued to shoot 39% from 3, it would have been good, but history indicated that was not going to happen.

I like Stuckey and I hope he can continue to play in the NBA for a few more seasons.

That can't be right. If so, who the hell agrees to those terms?

Good luck to Stuck wherever he goes.

He had a lot of negative press when he first signed here from Detroit, but he was nothing but a model citizen during his time here.

When healthy, he tended to be a spark plug off the bench. He just couldn't stay healthy very much or very long.

Ohh and his agent is a dumb *** for agreeing to dumb terms like the player option becoming void if waived.

As I've posted, I think the Stuckey signing turned out to be bad. But, the contract wasn't so bad as he wasn't going to keep PO and the Pacers had control anyway...

The Pacers had until April 10 to release Stuckey and avoid paying the $7 million for his 2017-18 player option. C.J. Miles (2017-18) and Monta Ellis (2018-19) share similar clauses in their contracts. The Pacers’ front office expressed contrition about releasing Stuckey at this point in the season, sources said, and believes both sides benefited from his nearly three seasons in Indiana.

Stuckey planned to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, sources said, but the Pacers needed to make the decision to open a roster spot to help their depleted bench.
