I think the Pacers are probably fine with the 6th seed all things considered.

Having said that, the Pacers remain damn near incapable of putting away lower ranking Eastern teams. They can never push the lead past ten and everyone outside of Paul George and Myles the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half was extremely underwhelming from halftime on.

I would be okay if Pacers stayed at the 6th seed. Stay away from 4, 5, and 7 seeds. Oh and a first round matchup with Boston.

Well in all fairness we never really contended they just always beat us if it mattered
To be fair, only two teams eliminated the Lebron Heat: the Mavs and the Spurs. The Mavs had Dirk - a guy at the apex of his career who churned out one of the greatest individual postseasons of anyone in history. The Spurs meanwhile were the most long lasting dynasty in league history, and had one last run in them in 2014. They were possessed that year.

The Heat had the best player in the league in his prime in Lebron, another top 5 player in Wade, and a top 10-15 player in Bosh who all teamed up to play together. That's not easy to play against when you have to build the old fashioned way like the Pacers. We played them hard and did better than the 2011 Rose Bulls and 2012 Durant Thunder, both of whom were dusted in 5 games by Miami.

We played them great in 2013 and were right there. If it weren't for the hideous decision by Vogel to pull Hibbert at the end of game 1 (biggest WTF moment I've ever seen from a coach), or if we would have had just one damn reliable bench player who could score, then we might very well have beat them.

The Pacers will finish 8th or 9th in the Conference.

I can overlook one mistake. But Vogel did it twice.

They finally decided to keep Miami from punking them. Good win

Is the 6th seed but a worse record an improvement on last year?

But what if a team makes the playoffs one year with a worse record and missed the playoffs the year before?

Improvement to me is second round I don't care if they are 2nd in the east and are out in the 1st round.

You didn't really get better then, the teams around you got worse. But like vnzla said--the real improvement would be advancing in the playoffs.

Yes, a second round birth would be a much welcomed improvement over last year.

No Danny not there. I guess Danny is doing some college basketball commentary, so he was busy yesterday.

Danny was on NBA radio NBA TV late last season and over the summer, but then he disappeared once the NBA season started, I wondered where he went, makes sense he is doing college

You're starting an NBA franchise and can have one of these players to build around. Who do you pick?

    - Reggie Miller
    - Jermaine O'Neal
    - Paul George

But that's not what the Pacers are doing and still, no.

    PG or JO.

Reggie was really good, but also had the perfect team around him. PG and JO give more flexibility in roster construction IMO if you're starting from scratch.

Reggie still greatest NBA Pacer though.

Yea, I know the Pacers aren't doing this. Just thought of it, I don't even know if its ever happened before, a team making the playoffs after not making with a better record the previous year.

As for our chances of bettering last year's record, we only had 1 more win this time last year. Hopefully we can finish stronger.

I don't disagree. He needed to go in the end. But come on man, the teams Bird gave him in his first couple of seasons were putrid, with little in the way of young talent. He coached them to within a few games of the playoffs in each of those two seasons.
I don't care what teams he was given, he was a horrible coach and had a horrible attitude. How many of our young players openly spoke out about how much they disliked O'Brien? He was holding the team back and hurting our development.

I still feel that Miami was just toying with us both series. Or mostly they were looking forward to whom they would be playing in the finals, considering both series-ending games were complete blowouts. The seven game series may have made them nervous; but, the next year, we won the first game, they got pissed off and reeled off three in a row, they let off the gas and we won another game, then they decided: "screw this, let's get this ***** over with!" and blew us out again.

It was the perfect storm. Jim O'Stubborn meets Stubby Bird.
