I think a big inside who can rebound and set great picks has been missing. Lavoy and his bad knees...
That has to be addressed in the off season.
No inside game tonight. PLays right into the Hornets hands

PG gives you 36 on 60% shooting and you lose by double digits? Rest of the team should be embarrassed.

C.J. Miles was one of Bird's best free agent signings. He'll be gone by August.

That was one of the worst efforts I've seen.

Even under Jim O'Brien we never had the poor shot selection we had tonight. No movenent, no pressure on the defense, no attacking the defense occurred tonight.

Meanwhile the Hornets looked like they had us well scouted but played like crap.

We set a record with only 3 free throw attempts. Thunk about it...only 1 shooting foul was called. That's the only stat you need to read from tonight's game.

Our starting frontcourt is a serious, serious problem right now.

Myles is just not confident at the moment. Teague is slumping as well.

Outside of that 3min stretch early in the 3rd qtr I'm not even sure Teague knew there was a game last night.

Ya, he hasn't been great after the all Star break, he has been interviewed saying he doesn't enjoy playing at home as much as he thought he would. I feel like as one player starts doing well offensively the others forget how to play

Two things. 1) Other than the early hole we dug, they played well. 2) There is no way in HELL Charlotte committed only two friggin shooting fouls the entire game. I'm sorry, but I'm getting pretty tired of these scenarios. It's not a matter of not being aggressive. That's just irresponsible refereeing.

Can you provide a link or more details? Was it just a passing comment?

Maybe its just me but that seems like a pretty big deal for him to say something like that.

Also maybe its because he is still living in his parents basement.

The announcers talked about how the Pacers were constantly settling for jump shots.

I don't have the shot charts in front of me but there was a lot of settling for Js last night. That won't get ya many FTA

It was talked about within one of Zach Lowe's podcasts

His frustration with the officials took him out of the game mentally it seemed. Kemba was ultra aggressive on both sides of the ball

    This isn't true.

I listened to the podcast/read the article from Lowe some weeks ago. And the guy takes a quote from Teague (was posted here) that he struggled with the pressure of coming home.

He then takes that quote/article to say that Teague doesn't like Indy.

    It was pretty ridiculous.

I don't think it's a big deal, but that wasn't what I took from what he said.

Perhaps I need to go back and listen but it seemed like the guy was paraphrasing Teague and said that playing at home wasn't as good as he (Jeff) thought it would be due to the extenuating circumstances off the court.

I stated that in the original post, regarding aggressiveness. I get that. But 3 foul shots the entire game? That's basically impossible. I've never seen a team attempt 3 freaking foul shots, ever. And ehile we weren't pounding it in, we were going in there. Even shooting nothing but jumpers would result in at least a handful of foul attempts. We never even sniffed the bonus in any quarter. The shot charts for both teams were pretty even, yet they shot 21 and we shot 3. That's just plain crazy. Its the lowest total in team history. That means that only twice during this game did Charlotte make contact on a Pacer shot. Twice.

The refs missed a few calls of course. None of them jump out from memory, but I'm sure there were a number of fouls that weren't called.

But the settling for outside jumpers and constant turnovers weren't helping either.

Again, look at the chart. There's little discernible difference. There's no logical reason for the discrepancy.

Also the Hornets allow the fewest free throws in the NBA.

This is purely a case of looking at the box score, seeing we only attempted three free throws, and blaming the refs. I thought the refs last night were better than they have been in the past month or so. We took an insane amount of contested jumpers, Charlotte did a good job of challenging without fouling, and nobody attacked. Maybe we should have gone to the line for 2-4 more shots, but 95% of the reason for that stat is lack of aggressiveness from the Pacers.

Absolutely not. I watched the entire game. I'm not denying we shot a lot of jumpers, but it wasn't egregious and it wasnt any more than Charlotte. Indy shot the ball a lot better on the whole. But no, I didnt skip the game and then base everything off a box score. 3 free throws is absolutely incredible in today's NBA.

I said it earlier in this thread, said it in the game thread, said it in the game thread before that: We absolutely have to get more from our starting frontcourt. I get Thad's wrist is bothering him and let's give him a cuddle for playing through the pain, but he is borderline useless out there right now. Myles has hit the sophomore wall, which I think he will bounce back from but it's a problem right now. I've long derided 12/25, but he's giving us exactly what we need out of him: physicality in the post and doing the scrappy stuff without needing the ball. He fouls roughly 11 times per minute, but you'll have that out of young bigs.

The Hornets forced so many turnovers early in the game, I think the Pacer players got a little tentative about forcing the action inside. So they settled for a lot of outside shots.
