So Tim Hardaway Jr. is a RFA this Summer. With a qualifying offer of about $3 million. He's 24, athletic, has improved his shooting, and he looks to be ready for prime time. The question is though can the Hawks afford him? They're projected to have $34 mil in cap space this Summer. We're projected to have a little over $24 mil. But triggering the early termination option on CJ, and moving Al Jeff or Stuckey at the draft would bump that number up to Atlanta's figure.
Problem is the Hawks have to sign Milsap. His NEW deal would gobble up a lot of their space. He's gonna command probably $27 mil per season this Summer. At 32 years old. Hawks couldn't afford Tim unless they move Bazemore or Howard. If I'm Larry?
I'm on TH Jr's doorstep July 1st at midnight with a contract for 4 years, $70 million. That's a little over $17 mil per season. I think something in this ballpark would present problems for Atlanta. They'd only have until midnight July 3rd to decide whether or not to match. They'd also have until then to make any trades or renounce Milsap entirely in order to match. We'd put them in quite a predicament.
