I'm starting to worry that if CJ opts out, we might not even be able to replace him with a player as good as he is.
CJ will opt out.....he's a 3pt shooting specialist and the NBA is all about 3pt shooting.

Some Team is going to overpay him....and I have no problem letting him go.

The problem that I'm more concerned that Bird will offer him some $15+ mil a year contract just to keep him ( think what he did with Stuckey ).

The Stuckey deal alone was not a bad deal. The bad part was that Bird had already signed Ellis. He should have only signed one of them that summer.

Agreed...... I think that Bird looked it from the "We need another Guard, why not someone that already knows the system?" POV as opposed to the far more logical "Stuckey/Monta are just redundant" POV

This goes back to my thought that Bird is more of a "Throw them all the Players together and let them figure it out" old-school thinking and one of the reasons why I want Bird gone after they get his Mock Draft list.

I know we haven't seeing it that long but the Monta/Stuckey duo has been kicking a** lately and to tell you the true I wasn't expecting that.

I'm worried he'll trade the pick for an expensive aging veteran that won't get the Pacers over the hump either.

You have to get younger though. Larry needs to get shooters this Summer or go big. Blake or Hayward.

So, business as usual for Bird?

Are you talking about trading for one or both of these guys? Wouldn't you have to talk the Clippers or Utah into doing that and who would you offer for them?

Hayward is going to be purely a free agent. As for Blake, if he opts out of the final year of his Clippers deal he too will be a free agent. It's all a matter of Larry putting his capital on the line.

That would be great, but neither one of them is coming to Indiana.

The only way we can get a young star to put along side of George is to either draft or trade for a young player and hope he develops. Since George has basically only given us one year to become a contender, we pretty much have to rely on Turner developing in to a star.

We can try to find a near all-star or former all-star (that is still playing near his all-star level) to put along side of George.

No one really comes or goes anywhere if a front office doesn't make the effort. If Larry and the FO puts on their big boy hats and goes after Hayward or Griffin they'd surely get one of them.

I agree they should make an effort, but it is unlikely they would get either one.

I just read an article that said Griffin has all but re-signed with the Clippers. Hayward is either going to re-sign with Utah or go to Boston. Indiana is probably a distant 3rd on his list...but at least it is probably on his list.

I don't think Blake staying with the Clippers is as cut and dry and it looks. I think Hayward would certainly have to look at Indiana. It's his hometown, and Boston really has no spot for him with all those ball dominant players. IT, Bradley, Brown, etc.

I hope you're right. I wouldn't mind seeing either one of them on the Pacers.

To be fair, of all the Free Agents out there....I think that if the Pacers offered the MAX to Hayward.....there's a chance that he may accept the offer given his families ties to Indiana ( as some have alluded to ).

But that completely ignores the fact that Bird would have to leave ( after he gives his Mock Draft Rankings ) and Grimp is hired to the Pacers FO as his replacement to mortgage off the Pacers future by selling off all of the next decades 1st round picks for pennies on the $$$ to dump AlJeff and Monta ( which only Grimp has the balls to do ).

    Boston can't afford him either.

incorrect. the main reason danny didn't do a deal this year was to have space in the summer

Actually the Celtics and Pacers are on par to have the same amount of max cap space according to Real GM. Celtics are projected to have around $37 mil in space, Indiana.... a little over $36 mil.

Those picks, especially a top 4 pick, and Olynk' s cap hold bumps that number down quite a bit.

Can someone educate me? If we did miraculously convince a Gordon Hayward-type to come here could we sign him first with Teague's low cap hold and then sign Teague after the fact? Hayward just being my dream example.

I imagine so. Right now with a luxury tax of a little over $113 million the Pacers payroll currently is only a little over $94 million. We could go right up to the tax to re-sign Teague. Then between trades and players you let go into free agency, use that money to sign Hayward or Blake.

To reach Hayward's max salary level, we'd have to either dump Monta or Al Jefferson. If Monta keeps up his hot streak through the rest of the season, it makes it a lot easier. Or just renounce Teague but I don't see that happening unless PG is traded.

So under the assumption that: Stuckey & Miles opt out (which in this insane market I see them both doing so). And Pacers picking up options on Allen, Young and GRIII- we'd be at $46m for 11 players. So I guess my question is do we have to stay under the projected cap of 102m or the projected LT of 122m for Teague+Hayward/Millsap/etc. If it's the latter of 122m we should have plenty of money if anyone wants to come here (by my calculation 76m, making convincing someone that we can compete for the East with them our only problem).

Would you guys have any interest in Bojan Bogdanovic in the off-season? He's 27 years old, shoots the 3 well, and is a restricted free agent this Summer. Currently making a little over $3 million. I'd offer him a $36 million, 3 year deal.
