    Default 2017 Free Agent Targets

Alright so since Bird has struck out on making trades, the Pacers have to shift focus on FA. Looking at the list, there isnt anyone that looks good or able to help the Pacers. Looks like a bunch of bench players or decent starters.
Who do you think we target?

    My thoughts are:
    -Tony Allen
    -Holiday(If we lose Teague)
    -Gibson
    -Redick
    -Patterson
    -Sefolosha
    -Morrow

    Birds thoughts:
    -Jeff Green
    -Illyasova
    -Meeks
    -Mike Scott
    -McLemore
    -Beno Udrih

Paul Milsap has a player option that he will exercise. What is the likelihood of us shedding and re-signing Teague and picking him up?

    Dion Waiters too?

    Robert Covington?

I just went off the list that site provided. It didn't list player or team option players.

Gotta at least put a call in to Hayward I think.

Unless the Pacers find a way to shed either Ellis' contract or Jefferson's contract or renounce Teague, there's no possible way to get Hayward.

Wouldn't it be better to look at 2018? Isn't that when we can shed 6 mil off Al Jeff, lose Monta, Thad, PG, Stuckey? Wouldn't it be better to look then, wait to re-sign PG and pick up a couple really good players then? and sign PG last to go over.

That would require allowing PG to hit the open market and hoping that the moves would entice him to re-sign here. Too risky.

You'd have to convince PG that they'd actually sign better players though. I don't know if he wants to wait to find out.

How about Serge Ibaka? I like the idea of Sefolosha too. A veteran with excellent defense. Has won a bunch of games in his career.

Also, what about Sergio Rodriguez for backup PG? Aggressive PG with decent size. Pritchard drafted him in Portland if i recall right.
    Impossible is nothing.

I would put the full press on Hayward out the gate. I would tell PG straight up we are going to try hard to get Gordon and contacting him personally would help. He would be a perfect fit next to PG. Obviously Gordon can do it all and has a very high basketball IQ which Larry loves. Having him and Paul in their primes for the next 5 years plus Myles and Teague. That would be a hard team to overcome with home court advantage in the playoffs. At the end of the day if we don't make any big moves like this then whats the point? If we let PG walk without trying to pair him with another top notch talent then I've lost my faith in us being able to win a title in this NBA.

If we had a legit shot at Hayward, I would use a future first to move either Ellis/Jefferson contract easily. Feel like he's the one guy who could make us significantly better.

Moving Al would be easy. He has a team option in 2018-2019. If Monta keeps playing like this we might be able to move him for a 1st. Although I would only move him if necessary. Goal should be to dump CJ, Rodney and Al.

I'd be leery about signing anymore aging players. Milsap would be 36 by the time he retired a Pacer. No thanks. Blake Griffin, Gordon Hayward or trade for Jimmy Butler.

If you want to show PG you're serious, do everything you can to go after Blake Griffin and Gordon Hayward. Buy out contracts, trade guys and picks, clear space. Easy to say when it's not my money, but if you are committed to contending with PG as your star, it's going to take an over-the-top effort to assemble a roster that can topple Cleveland and Toronto, let alone Golden State. Teague, Turner, and PG should be a great starting point, but it's going to take an all out blitz on all fronts, or PG is going to end up somewhere else that will go all out.

Is it a pipe dream? Almost certainly. But, what else are we gonna do?

If there is a way to get Jimmy Butler that would not cost us PG, Teague, Turner than I am all for it. I would prefer to keep CJ and Stucky but it would be worth it to get butler. We are also under the cap I believe so we could absorb some contract as well.

The Pacers can realistically create max cap space. Gordon Hayward could have an Indiana homecoming, or adding second-tier players like Otto Porter or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope could increase the chances George extends or renegotiates and extends his contract like Russell Westbrook did for the Thunder.

This isn’t a DeMarcus Cousins situation for the Pacers — they won’t entertain lowball offers. Nor is it a Jimmy Butler scenario where there’s a fundamental disagreement within the front office on the direction of the team. Even if George is unhappy and goes as far as to demand a trade, teams will line up for a chance at his services.

    Should be all-in on Hayward.

Hayward would be a great fit, but PG couldn't handle somebody better than him who also happens to be a hometown hero.

Is Hayward considered a good defender? If not, given the make up of our roster I wouldn't bet the farm for him.

We need wings that can shoot and play defense. We also desperately need to shed the Ellis and Jefferson contracts. Bird has made this a lot harder than it needs to be.
