Definitely have to start out asking for a lot, but too much will get you cut off...
Bird could ask Ainge for first born daughter and Ainge would still negotiate. it's Larry Bird and Danny Ainge. also, Ainge is really good at this.

Wonder if they could make a trade or 2 to get picks though.
I've mentioned them before, but I wonder if Portland would take a major roll of the dice with PG. McCollum+two of their '17 first rounders+the right to euthanize Evan Turner. Intriguing, no?

No way Boston does that. Choose three of those items and you probably have a deal.
That's why I said starting point, I'd take Crowder + 17 Nets + Brown if I had to choose 3 from that, though taking 18 Nets pick over Brown would be fine as well. Bradley is too risky as a free agent...Crowder is a nice bridge to whoever is the next guy at small forward and his contract is cheap for 3 seasons.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

This has been the obvious decision to make for a long time now.

Also, can't figure out how so many people want to keep PG just so we can have 1st round exits the next two years before he leaves.

The two picks and Crowder would work for me. Develop a good team around a young core. Get a SG, PG, or SF out of this draft and a big out of next years class.

If he really want to go, send him to LAL along with Ellis for Ingram, Randle and their first.
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

If we take the Lakers package over the Boston package, I would seriously consider cancelling my courtside tickets tomorrow if Bird remained.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I really like the Crowder/Bradley/'17 Nets pick package. I'm not a huge fan of Jaylen Brown and I think all of this crap you hear about how much Boston "loves" him is noise to inflate his value.

I don't see the Pacers being much worse if at all without PG. and the future would be much brighter.

We cannot afford to pay anyone $200 million. Simon doesn't go over the cap, we'd suck. PG is not worth that money.

I don't really give a **** if PG wants to go home to LA or not. We trade him for the best possible package we can get. Let the team that trades for him worry about him bolting to LA. Unless we want to take 50 cents on the dollar, the Lakers can't put together a package good enough for PG without gutting their roster and then PG is going to want to leave because the Lakers suck.

I don't want Bradley at all unless he is going to play PG.

Of course, if we are trading PG, it would make sense to trade Teague too.

I like Brown. He's definitely a mystery, but I think he will at the very least be a lock down defender.

    I've figured it out!

We trade Paul now. Get all this young cheap talent. Then we re-sign Paul in summer of '18! GENIUS!

He can go to LAL and see what it is to play on a "winning" team

Bradley is hurt a lot. I agree the Nets 1st & Crowder is a must. Jae Crowder is helluva replacement right now for PG. Crowder, unlike PG, goes hard every night. Jaylen Brown reminds me of PG when he was a rookie...maybe we can get Smart too? Make them take on Monta.

    Jeff Teague / Aaron Brooks
    Marcus Smart / Jaylen Brown
    Jae Crowder / CJ Miles
    Thad Young / Lavoy Allen
    Myles Turner / Al Jefferson

That lineup is better than what we use now.

#1 overall pick, Lonzo Ball? Fultz? Smith? Let Teague walk, save $.
    Our own #17 pick
    Cap space $$$$

That's another thing--if you trade PG, you're kind of signaling a rebuild, no? Teague is a free agent after the season, do we scramble and try to trade him too?

I honestly wonder if you could get another asset by including Teague in a trade. Would Boston flip you another pick to have Teague come off the bench backing up Thomas for this playoff run?

If we are trading PG, absolutely. Pick up another first from where ever we can get it.

Absolutely, what is the point of keeping Teague? I doubt he would stick around for the rebuild.

But I could see Bird thinking they're still a good playoff team with Crowder replacing PG and not moving Teague.

For what? Not many teams out there looking for a 3-month rental at PG.
