The American political system is broken so far beyond just the EC. Cdash just hit the nail on the head with the joke that is a two party system. It's all ****ed. And your blind if you don't see it.

Also the personal mockery that is happening in this thread is gross. Be better than that. It's why threads like this get closed here.

More choices sound great in theory but that's what got Trump the Republican nomination...

Think of it this way: Say you have a group of 10 dudes who are trying to figure out where to go out to eat. If the town only has two restaurants (a Hooters and a low-rent Hooters knockoff called TitWings), it's easier to get everybody to all agree on Hooters -- you only need six guys to come around. But if there are dozens of restaurants and each guy wants to go to a different one, they're all going to argue at the bar until they starve to death a month later. It's simply easier to bring people together when they don't have that many places to go. So despite how extreme Democrats and Republicans each claim the other party is, ideological polarization is less likely with only two parties.

It would be interesting to see which parties would emerge in a multi-party system in the US. It seems if our culture had separate parties, Bernie Sanders would have run separately given his following. Ted Cruz might have run.

Honestly, I think the breakdown would have been similar with Trump winning via the GOP, Hillary coming second via the Dems, Sanders third via the socialists and Cruz 4th via the conservatives. It's possible a Libertarian would run and depending on who that is they would probably help the socialist party by taking away from the GOP, conservatives and to some extent the Dems. But then there are communists in the Democratic Party. If they split off, they would probably take votes from socialists and the Dems similar to how the Green Party candidates reduce the Democratic vote. All things considered, it just depends. I think this last election it might have easily helped Trump.

simply, obviously in my opinion, no the EC is not representative.

the basic breakdown of the EC makes it seem like the more people your state has the more EC votes it holds. sounds good, would make some sense, but it's not true. it's every Congressional/Senate seat your state holds, each one has an EC vote, it's not some "ever 1% of the national population is an EC vote" or something. so you've got states like CA/NY with 55 and 31 EC votes where if you're John Q. Public your individual vote is actually worth 10-15% less because of such a bigger population compared to smaller states like Alaska and the Dakotas.

breaking down your question the last census, CA + NY = a population of 56.25mm and 86 EC votes. so every EC vote represented ~654k people. AK and the Dakotas were 2.13mm and 9 EC votes, 1 EC vote = ~236k people. so strictly on paper those ED: INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN VOTERS, NOT STATES, my bad, (that I specifically illustrated for the sole purpose of the exercise and no other reason other than to try to illustrate, what are in my opinion, the flaws) have almost a 280% advantage in voting power.

but if we're being honest none of those numbers matter. it's in the 6 so swing states. I mean, gerrymandering is a way bigger deal than that, but I gotta work today.
Here's a good article on it. It shows the "voting power" of each state.
    http://www.slate.com/articles/news_a...50_states.html

California ranks 49th, New York 51st, and Illinois 46th. Personally, I believe the popular vote should decide the president. My democratic presidential vote doesn't matter in Indiana. A republican presidential vote in California doesn't matter. That's not right, IMO, especially when you consider the House and Senate give representation to every state, equally and based on population.

But the Electoral College is going nowhere, and neither is Donald Trump until January 2025.

Conservative here and I agree. We should have the popular vote. We should also have a strict Voter ID law and be thoroughly investigating voter fraud and be auditing polls regularly.

That myth has been debunked multiple times, only people that believe that are getting their information from Info wars or places like that (like our current president).

ALL of you people. Not just V need to watch and listen to this. Liberal Democrats and liberal media in our own State of Indiana have even confirmed massive voter registration fraud by ACORN.

But go ahead and deny it. This is just one example in Indiana. It's hard telling how bad it is in a more liberal state. I would not at all be surprised if Trump actually won the popular vote. Not saying I am a Trump fan either...

Does Popovich have to keep popping off about politics? I hope the Spurs lose. And no I don't like the orange clown fool. But I even more dislike that the MSM isn't even giving him a chance to govern.

WaPost is a soiled rag of a web site. Most news on both side of the political spectrum are lying.

Nope their are not, nobody even cares to visit them in the primaries either, they rather go to Kentucky and Ohio, the electoral college system is trash and should be eliminated.
The electoral college exists so that states like new york & california do not call the shots for everyone else. I am more than ok with that.

Impeach him. I hope that happens. I am no Trump fan. But I'm still glad he beat Hillary and we never see her and Bill in the White House. I can't wait to see Pence take charge...

As a business owner, we take risks and are particularly creative in order to create jobs. Getting a job is one thing. Creating one is far more difficult. Most people simply are not capable of doing it. So those darned rich people deserve to be rich IMO.

It depends on what he says. Obama supported the Muslim Brotherhood terrorists. He supported the terrorists fighting Syria's dictator...which ultimately led to terrorists flowing into Europe. He opposed Israel. He hates Bibi. He gave 100 billion to Iran under the table. I'm not saying Obama is a terrorist or even a sympathizer. But try being objective. He was not a friend of those who most oppose Islamofacism.

Why would anyone have to imagine it, when it happened? Obama gave a speech titled "A New Beginning" in Cairo 2009. It kicked off the infamous "Apology Tour."

your quoted tweet says "on Islam in Saudi Arabia." Obama speaking English doesn't change the fact he did what you want people to imagine him doing it.

What language Obama gave the speech in has literally zero to do with anything.
