Former Dolphin Quentin Moses dies in a house fire

Former Dolphins defensive end/linebacker Quentin Moses died on Sunday morning in a house fire in Monroe, Georgia.

Fire Chief Keith Glass said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that three people were killed in the fire, including a mother and daughter who were found inside the home. Moses was moved outside the house after being found unconscious, but later died at the hospital. Glass said the roof of the house collapsed as firefighters worked to get the fire under control.

Moses grew up in Georgia and played for the University of Georgia before being selected in the third round of the 2007 draft by the Raiders. Moses was waived before playing a game for the team and wound up in Miami, where he spent four seasons and had 3.5 sacks for the Dolphins.

Our condolences to the families and friends of all those who died on Sunday.

Darrelle Revis Reportedly Under Investigation After Pittsburgh Altercation; Lawyer Says Jets Star Was The Victim

PITTSBURGH (CBSNewYork) ó Pittsburgh police are reportedly investigating Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis following an early-morning altercation earlier this week.

According WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, authorities are considering filing felony charges against the seven-time Pro Bowler. He, however, has not been charged.

Sources told the station that two men approached Revis on the cityís South Side at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, complimented his clothes and asked if he was Revis, who acknowledged he was. The men continued to follow the football star and began recording video of him on a cellphone, the sources said.

A shoving match then allegedly ensued as Revis, who is from the Pittsburgh suburb of Aliquippa, asked the men to leave him alone. The men claimed Revis grabbed the phone, tried to delete the video and then threw it into the street.

A friend of Revisí then approached, the sources said. The two men who allegedly followed Revis were then punched, but itís unclear who struck them, according to the report. A police officer said he had spotted Revis talking to two people, and that after he circled back around the men had been knocked out and Revis was gone, the sources said.

Both men were treated at a hospital, one with broken bones around his eye, WTAE reported.

Revisí lawyer told CBSPittsburgh.com that the cornerback was in town visiting family and friends when he was allegedly assaulted by a group of five people and needed medical treatment.

Report: Tony Romo expects to be cut not traded

    Itís happening.

As PFT has long predicted (most recently just earlier this hour on The Dan Patrick Show), the Cowboys likely will be releasing not trading quarterback Tony Romo. While that hasnít happened yet, itís pointing in that direction.

Ed Werder of ESPN reports that Romo is expecting to be released, not traded.

Back in December, it was predicted on a special Saturday edition of Thursday Night Football that Romo would ask for his release ó and that the Cowboys would be inclined to ultimately agree. Since then, it has been predicted in this spot and other PFT-related hangouts that Romo and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will hammer out a wink-nod arrangement in which Romo gets cut in return for a verbal agreement not to sign with specific other teams including but not limited to Washington. (It would be unenforceable and a Collective Bargaining Agreement violation, but Jones surely trusts that Romo wouldnít blow the whistle or otherwise reneging.)

Apart from the complexity of trading an aging quarterback with a recent history of significant injuries, Romo would have to welcome a deal that transfers his contract (at a $14 million salary) to a new team for which he may or may not want to play. It makes more sense for him to negotiate a new deal from scratch with the team of his choice. And if that team doesnít have to give up draft picks to get Romo, that team may be inclined to pay him even more than it otherwise would.

So count this report from Werder as Step One. Before too long, Romo could be stepping right out of Dallas, with an agreed list of potential destinations based on a secret side deal that no one ever will acknowledge.

Thank God Trent Richardson is an ex-Colt:

    http://www.wthr.com/article/former-c...-back-arrested

Police say they received a call of a disturbance at the Hyatt Place hotel shortly after 8pm.

Police say an altercation between Richardson and a woman turned physical and the woman sustained minor injuries to her face.
He tried to run from the police, but he only made it 2.9 yards before he was caught.

OK - the last sentence is mine.

Ex-Cardinal Floyd pleads guilty, gets 24 days in jail

New England Patriots wide receiver Michael Floyd has pleaded guilty to second offense extreme drunken driving and been sentenced to 24 days in jail.

The former Arizona Cardinals player entered the plea in Scottsdale City Court on Thursday.

He also was sentenced to 96 days home confinement and will be required to wear GPS and alcohol monitoring devices during that time. Floyd was ordered to undergo alcohol counseling and pay a $5,000 fine.

Floyd was arrested Dec. 12 after police found him unresponsive at the wheel of his running car. Police say he had a blood alcohol level of 0.217. Anything over 0.08 is considered driving under the influence.

The Cardinals released Floyd shortly after his arrest and he signed with the Patriots, winning a Super Bowl ring though he wasn't active for the title game.

Ex-Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell lands on Vikings’ staff

The Vikings are adding a former college head coach to their staff of assistants.

Former Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell will be the Vikings’ wide receivers coach, Alex Marvez of Sporting News reports.

Hazell was fired by Purdue halfway through last season after getting off to a 3-3 start. That concluded a brutal run at Purdue in which he went 1-11, 3-9 and 2-10 in his three full seasons there. He got the Purdue job after leading Kent State to an 11-3 record in 2012.

Hazell has previously been a receivers coach at Eastern Illinois, Western Michigan, Army, Rutgers and Ohio State. He has never coached in the NFL.

Report: Dolphins, Jags working on Branden Albert Ė Julius Thomas swap

The Dolphins and Jaguars are working on a trade involving offensive tackle Branden Albert and tight end Julius Thomas, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The report said there are hurdles that still need to be cleared, including the possibility that the players involved might need to restructure their contracts.

It was reported last week that the Dolphins would release Albert, but that didnít happen. It does seem clear that heís not in the teamís 2017 plans, and the Jaguars were immediately linked to Albert as a potential suitor.

The players involved would have to pass physicals, and no deal could become official until the new league year begins on March 9.

Thomas is under contract through 2019, and $3 million of his $7.1 million 2017 salary is already guaranteed. Thomas caught four touchdown passes in nine games for the Jaguars last season and had his best seasons with the Broncos when Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was the offensive coordinator in Denver.

The Dolphins are in the tight end market with both Dion Sims and Jordan Cameron eligible for free agency next month. The Jaguars are in the tackle market because they wonít be picking up the 2017 contract option on Kelvin Beachum.

Moving on from Albert would save the Dolphins about $7.2 million in cap space for 2017. The team is expected to move 2016 first-round pick Laremy Tunsil out from guard to take Albertís spot at left tackle.

Trailblazing quarterback Bernie Custis dies at 88

Decades before the NFL embraced African-American quarterbacks, Bernie Custis became the first in pro football in 1951 as the starter for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL. On Thursday, Custis died at the age of 88.

ďTrailblazers are rightly remembered for being the first,Ē CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge said, via the Associated Press. ďBernie Custis, the first black professional quarterback in the modern era starting with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1951, should be revered as well for being one of our best. A world-class athlete, he excelled both as a quarterback and a running back. A tremendous leader, he was a successful coach who had a positive impact on countless young lives. A true gentleman, he brought honor to our game and our league, and provided us with a role model to emulate.Ē

The Browns made Custis the sixth overall pick of the 1951 draft. But Cleveland wanted to make him a safety, and Custis wanted to play quarterback. So he went to Canada.

Custis, who played college football at Syracuse and roomed with Al Davis, became a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

After his playing career ended, Custis spent 31 years in coaching at various levels.

Ravensí Matt Elam arrested on drug charges

Ravens safety Matt Elam has been arrested on drug charges in Miami.

According to Miami-Dade police records, Elam was booked at 3:45 a.m. today on charges of possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of cannabis with the intent to sell or deliver, and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say they initially pulled Elam over for reckless driving and found 126 grams of marijuana and three grams of oxycodone in his vehicle.

The 25-year-old Elam was the Ravensí first-round draft pick in 2013. The Ravens did not pick up Elamís fifth-year option, so he becomes a free agent next month.

Not that surprising. Chiefs needed the cap room to re-sign Eric Berry.

I think we all knew that Romo was going to be cut so how long will it be till he announces he's going to Denver( I don't think Houston because I'm guessing the only way Jerrah would release Romo is if he wouldn't go to the in state rival)
