Not that big of a deal they Pats will be just fine.

Converting tough third downs will be more difficult, especially come playoff time, without Edelman. Nobody easily replaces 98 catches, 1100+ yards, zero interceptions while being targeted 159 times, and a guy with a virtual mind-meld with his QB as to where to be, precisely, on every play. He is a chain-moving machine, and is STILL a clutch punt returner.

When he was injured in 2015, in those games he missed, Brady's passer rating dropped 10 points and the team's 3rd down conversion percentage dropped from the mid-50s to the low 40s.

He had gutted his way to being a top 5 WR.

Will they be a bad team without him? No.

Will they make the playoffs? Yes.

Was he more important to the offense than even Gronk? Yes.

Will others step up their production to compensate? Yes. Hogan, in particular, will be a monster in his 2nd year.

Does it lessen their chances of winning the Super Bowl? Absolutely. It probably cuts the odds in half, and that's IF Gronk stays healthy.

Does it reduce the odds, low as they were anyway, for a 19-0 season? Yes, a 5% chance became a 0% chance.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!).

Will Belichick go to a local 7-11, sign the stock boy to a contract and have him make Pro-Bowl this year ?? Yeah.

So basically this is a long winded way for you to say that you agree....

Welker is the ultimate jinx though notice how the Broncos and Pats won SB's after he left.

    "Not missing a beat"
    and
"seeing your odds of winning a title drop by at least 50%"

are not the same at all, to me. Are they to you?

As to replacing Welker, they knew that Wes was going to be a free agent and so they actually gave Edelman 3 starts OVER Welker as a trial run in Welker's last year, then they signed Amendola as a second level of insurance.

Plus Welker was not one to RAISE his game in the playoffs, like Edelman. The opposite, in fact, hence me saying that he'd be missed "especially come playoff time"

It just shows how the PC sports media is ruining sports. Just pathetic.

I think this is an incredibly racist thing to do since Lee is a common last name for Asians. ESPN, by attempting to take a stance against racism, has wound up doing something incredibly racist. Sounds about right given the absurd things on that network nowadays.

I wanted to watch the local news but the Pats/Chiefs game is still on with the Chiefs still leading.

That doesn't mean anything until that clock hits Zero.

Good Job Chiefs you embarrassed the Pats at their home.

Great to see the Chiefs continue to go after Brady the last two drives instead of sitting back in prevent and letting him remedy his poor numbers.

Andy Reid does wonders with a bye week (or in this case offseason) in the regular season.

Although Eric Berry is probably out for the season.

That was an impressive performance by the Chiefs. Could be an AFC Title game preview. I'd give the Chiefs a solid chance to beat the Pats in the playoffs if they get home field, but I don't think they'd win in Foxboro in January. Hopefully they don't screw up in the regular season.

I don't have as much optimism in the NFL these days, so I'm assuming this means the Pats will win their next 18 games.

But I'm trying real hard, Ringo, to enjoy this loss and I'd be thrilled to see KC win the AFC, even the SB this year. I've always liked Reid and Alex Smith and I think they deserve it. Not to mention Eric Berry coming back from cancer to injure his achilles - dude can't catch a break. So, since the Colts are gonna be garbage again this year, I'll adopt the Chiefs as a cheering interest.
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

ESPN has calculated that the Pats have a 0% chance of going 19-0 this year...

smart move by Belichick just getting the undefeated hype outta the way right off the bat.

guarantee that's gonna be a take this week.

Got on ESPN this morning fully expecting to see the "this loss will help them" article...and sure enough, they didn't disappoint: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...e=featurephone

On second thought, the headline is a bit misleading. It's not the rah-rah get 'em next time piece I thought it would be, rather more of a "they deserved this" story.
