Ex-Raiders QB Todd Marinovich making comeback at 48

Quarterback Todd Marinovich of the Los Angeles Raiders looks to pass the ball during a game against the New York Giants at the Los Angeles Memorial Stadium in os AngelesÖ
Former Los Angeles Raiders quarterback Todd Marinovich is returning to play football at the age of 48.

Marinovich played his college ball at the University of Southern California before he was drafted in the first round of the 1991 NFL draft by the Raiders.

He was a product of an abusive household who trained him to become an NFL quarterback since the day he was born. Unfortunately, the immense pressure seemed to finally catch up to him as he turned to drug use.

During his last year at USC, he was arrested for cocaine possession, yet still decided to enter the draft.

Once he got to the league, he played in a few games, but his drug addiction took over his life and pushed him of the NFL rather quickly.

Now, Marinovich believes he has actually recovered from his addiction after he was arrested last year walking naked around someone's backyard. He has tried to rehabilitate himself before, but he believes he finally made a lifestyle change that will keep him sober.

With his personal life in better standing, he can focus on his return to the game of football. Marinovich is set to be a part of the SoCal Coyotes, a developmental football team, who have their first practice on Aug. 10.

Hopefully, Marinovich has actually recovered from his addiction and can begin to show what kind of player he could have been if drugs didn't force his life to go sideways.

A rapper named Boogotti Kasino had the dog. Says it was a misunderstanding and the dog has been returned. I smell a publicity stunt.

Marshawn Lynch Takes Over Emeryville Soul Food Restaurant to Save It
Heís going Beast Mode on a hometown favorite
by Ellen Fort Jul 19, 2017, 10:31am PDT

Itís always tough to say goodbye to a restaurant thatís been around for a lifespan, but when the 80 year-old owner is ready to retire thereís usually not much choice ó unless NFL star Marshawn ďBeast ModeĒ Lynch happens to live nearby. Thatís the case with Scendís Restaurant and Bar, a soul food restaurant thatís operated at the Oakland-Emeryville border since 1967, which Lynch recently purchased in order to keep it open.

The purchase comes after 79-year-old owner Cassie Nickelson decided to retire from 50 years of serving soul food classics like red beans and rice, wings, fried catfish, oxtails, and macaroni and cheese. Lynch will take over the restaurant in August, with no plans to change the menu. ďIím comfortable with him and I like him,Ē Nickelson told KTVU. Apparently that stems from a long history in Oakland, when a nine-year-old Lynch bought french fries and hamburgers from Nickelson when she ran a catering business from her apartment.

Itís a happy ending for fans of the restaurant, whoíve been eating Nickelsonís food for decades, and for fans of Lynch, whose return to Oakland has been much celebrated. The running back, who was recently signed to the Raiders out of retirement, attended Oakland Technical High School and played for Cal; now that heís back in his hometown, thereíve been multiple celebrations including a block party hosted by Lynch, and a group bike ride of almost 400 people in May.

Eater has reached out to Lynch for more information on what the takeover means for Scendís. Stay tuned for more info.

David Bruton retires after eight seasons

Safety David Brutonís 2016 season came to an end after four games because of a concussion and those four contests will be the final ones of his NFL career.

Bruton was released by the Redskins in December and had a workout with the Ravens, but said his heart wasnít in it after suffering six concussions and dealing with other injuries over the course of his career. That meant it was time to follow a new path and the former Bronco has enrolled at the University of Colorado-Denver to pursue a future as a physical therapist.

ďIím burnt-out, definitely worry about my health,Ē Bruton said, via ESPN.com. ďAnother season was cut short by a concussion [in 2016] ó thatís six. Iím a guy who likes to use his brain. Especially back in school, I need as many brain cells as possible with all these science classes. It came down to health, and Iíve definitely had my time in the league. Iím ready to move on.Ē

Bruton was a fourth-round pick by the Broncos in 2009 and spent seven years with the team as a core member of their special teams units. He was part of their Super Bowl team after the 2015 season, but did not play in the win over the Panthers due to a fractured fibula.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd - that's over. They traded for Cardale Jones.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...-buffalo-bills

Los Angeles, which has incumbent quarterback Philip Rivers in place as the team's top signal-caller, privately worked out quarterback Robert Griffin III on Tuesday. Though the workout reportedly went well, instead of signing Griffin, the team executed the trade with the Bills.
