I worry less about rebounding than most others, especially in this age of launching 100 three pointers per game. Long shots=long rebounds.

That said, it would probably be best to put a more physical guy next to Myles. I'm not a big Thad Young fan, even before he hurt his wrist.

    Yeah me neither (go figure)
You can't have two soft guys inside like that and expect to be highly competitive on a consistent basis.

Looks like people are starting to sour after a ton of hype. I wanted him in the draft and still like him immensely, but I had realistic expectations that he would struggle quite a lot in different areas at different times. I'm fine with Myles offensively, as long as he takes advantage of mismatches in the post, which I think he does a solid enough job of. West was a key offensive player for us mainly because of his midrange, and Myles should be about 4 times the defender he was in a couple of years. I'm greatly looking forward to his growth and I would also like to see a stronger FC partner.

I have all of the confidence in the world that Turner will be a #2 guy in this league. He needs to work on crashing the boards this summer, and I believe he will. Absolutely has the work ethic to make adjustments.

If that's the case, what #1 guy will be available to us? I'm one of those of the mindset that we've got a big 3 right now that is all comprised of guys best suited to be the #2 guy. That to me say we either need a legit #1 guy or that we probably need a full starting five of guys who are #2 - level guys. In the former scenario, we need one blockbuster acquisition. In the latter, it requires two high-profile acquisitions.

Turner could turn out to be our modern era Rik Smits but he's not even there yet.
I dunno - the grumbling about his playing has started, so that part is there.

It's just a process that always happens on our young players. People over hype them and then they eventually turn on them. People haven't completely turned on Myles yet but it will happen once he's off his rookie deal.
Right now Turner is a good offensive player and a very flawed defensive player. I expect him to add to his offensive game but never be a great post player or good post defender. If Turner exceeds that and evolves to have the post defense of Dale Davis and the offensive game of Dirk then great but I think we'd be better off getting him an enforcer and living with his flaws.
Larry Bird qouted March 25th. 2015:

Bird: I wanted to keep our group together because in the summer, if David and Roy opt out, we're back to zero, really. We don't have that much, so you leave your options open. If we did make a trade, I didn't want to take on a lot of contracts -- because that's what usually happens. Plus, I liked my guys. They're playing well. If we keep the core together and Paul comes back healthy, we'll be right back to where we were.

Smits was booed during games. Myles has certainly not reached that point and I doubt he ever will. Rik was also benched for Greg Dreiling

Sure, let's hope Myles isn't treated that badly. The point, though, is that Smits was not always considered to be a cornerstone center for a franchise, especially early on.

Smits was really awful sometimes. He could just be really lazy.

That was what he got accused of, certainly. It's where I got my *twitch* when people use the words "lazy" or "lack of effort" for someone having a bad game.

The only way is to draft him. We're not trading for a current #1.

Turner is overrated, hoping Pacers pickup an starting center this off season.

From a poster who thinks Mont Ellis is the best thing since sliced bread, you really consider that?

He was often lazy though. Just watched the ball instead of hustling for rebounds too often.

Maybe I'm just not tracking well, but if we have a guy playing Center that is considered the best shooter on the team, what plays are we calling to get him open looks and how many times a game? Do we even have plays? It sometimes seems to me that the Pacers entire game is based on 1 on 1, see a shot, take a shot. Only when we are stopped dead in our tracks do we seem to look for the open man. Or, maybe, I jus t like ball movement too much.

No, this thread talked about him being in a slump.

You talked about him not being good enough to be our starting Center.

The "slump" has been happening all year long I don't see any progress for him this year.

I would also like to compare him to other teams starting centers to see where he ranks.
