Reports I have read indicate Irsay is motivated to make a deal. Probably have to trust that Ballards knowledge of Poe's health and future productivity can lead to an appropriate contract.

Most would say an edge rusher is the biggest area of need but putting together a DLine that can win at the LOS would be huge for this unit. Pressure can be schemed to a certain degree but winning the physical battle in the trenches.......

Guess we're stuck with David Parry for another season.

No deal now doesn't mean a deal won't get done. It's more unlikely now, but it's not over.

I heard he had back issues but it wasn't very specific. I look at what the Ravens gave their NT and I am sure Poe wants that type of contract.

It's very possible that Ballard had a number and years in mind and chose to stick with that rather than give in to higher demands that Poe wanted. Which is a good trait to have as a GM I think. We may still get him, but there are other good options available.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Unless it was a bad offer.

Kevin Minter is meeting with the Colts, PFF had him rated as the 25th best linebacker last season. Would definitely fill a need.

Also for those interested, Poe also left Jacksonville without a deal.

The things I have heard about Poe make me not that enthused about giving him a big deal. Between the back problems, declining play, and the lack of pass rush, there isn't enough reward to justify the risk. If he chooses to sign a 1 year prove it deal, that's a different story.

This is also the free agent that Ballard probably knows the most about, so he probably has a pretty solid idea of his value.

The way Poe's making the rounds he's waiting on some dumb GM to give him a big deal

Turbin is coming back for 2 years, 4.1 million.

    Eh, I guess that's a good deal. I don't know.

Probably means a RB in the first round is not on our radar.

And while I would like a young RB, I'm ok waiting another year for that given how good the defensive depth is for this draft.

As said, Ballard of all people knows the value and health of Poe and if he's not willing to up the money that Poe wants then I'm ok with that.

I like the signings so far. Young, hungry players. Turbin was a decent backup. If we can get a DL, even on a 1 year deal, that would help tremendously.

We really should re-sign Butler, and we of course need another CB.

Not sure if he's healthy, but Deshawn Shead would be a perfect #2 corner.

This is how I see it. He probably asked Ballard for a big pay-raise, and Ballard replied: "Next!!!"

I think so I mean RBs are a dime a dozen and I liked what I saw from him plus he's younger than Gore too.

I see us sticking with Turbin and Gore for one more year, with us mostly focusing on defense in the draft. Then, depending on how next year plays out, maybe getting a running back either 1st or 2nd round next year.

DE/LB Margus Hunt agreed to terms with the Colts for 2 years.

Goes against Ballard's philosophy of acquiring young talent on defense as he's 30 years old.

He's not overpaying for these guys like Grigson did though.

Rebuilding our defense is a tough chore. Very difficult to check all the ideal boxes with the cupboard as it was.

But he's young in football years. He didn't start playing football until he was 22 (if I did the math right).
