Default Saturday night is my worst nightmare.

Let me first say I never miss Pacer games. Even regular season games, I just don't miss them, and that thing many of you do, Tivo or record the game and watch it a little later, I can't do that, I've tried and I just can't. I always skip to the end to see who won first.

OK here is my worst nightmare, I'm going to miss the game Saturday night. There is a fun family function that I have no choice but to attend. I can't show up late or leave early either.

There will be several Pacers fans there and there will be TV's in the area, but I won't be able to sneak out to go watch the game. So there is no way I can record the game and come home at 10:00 and watch it like it was live, I'll know the score as soon as the game ends.

My plan is to "sneak out" if I can, to watch the last 2 or 3 minutes if it's close. But the problem is I won't be able to have any fun at the party while I know the game is going on, I'll be looking at my watch and thinking well the 1st quarter is over, wonder what the score is, you know that type of thing.

Should I just go with the flow, or should I tell everyone that I don't want to know the score so I can go home and watch it. I don't think that is even possible though in this situation and it will be more trouble tyhan what it's worth.

Should I buy a little portable TV or a just radio.

Anyone have any good advise from your past experience

Why do you want to watch us lose anyway? I promise you, away teams just don't win game 7's
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I just commented in my U2 thread in the Pub that I'm in a similar predicament. I can probably watch the entire game from a bar in the UC before U2 even takes the stage... but what if the Pacers lose, will I even be able to enjoy the concert?

At least, isolated in Chicago, I might be able to watch the game on Sunday with no idea what the final outcome is.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Do you have a cell phone that you can get applications with? I don't know about the other companies, but I have Verizon and all downloaded ESPN's bottomline on to it. I was at a track meet all last night, and just logged on to that and got the score whenever I could get it to refresh.

It was a little slow, but it was better than nothing until I found a radio.

Man that sux! You'll know the outcome of the game by the faces of the other Pacers fans there - reguardless if you ask them not to tell u the score. Maybe u should eat some spoiled food and get sick Sat afternoon so u wont be able to make the party. Or, if u have a cell phone I'm sure u can check the score every 5 mins with it. Or maybe u should buy one of those little cheap tv's and set it up in the bathroom. Drink a lot of beer and have to use the bathroom a lot...

I'm going to have to miss the game as well because of a banquet that is two hours away

If I'm lucky, ESPN radio will have the game and I can catch some of it on the way back home (keep in mind, I'm not in Indiana).

I know several fans who cannot watch because they get too nervous. I about have a nervous breakdown when I can't watch the games

I just suggest you go and try to enjoy yourself because you'll be better off in the end. If we win, then you can go ahead and look forward to the Pistons series. If we somehow lose, then you'll be better suited for the transition to the offseason.

UB, go to your function, walk in the door, ripoff all your clothes, jump up on a table and scream "PACERS FOREVER".

Someone will grab you and escort you outside. When outside, plead "temporary insantity", tell this person that you are "okay now but it might occur again at anytime, so you better go home".

Apologize to everyone later and all will be forgiven.

Well whatever you do don't tell anyone you don't want to know the score. Because it has been my expireince that there will always be some jackass who doesn't understand how serious we are about it and thinks it would be funny to drop hints or just tell you the score to get you pissed. Happens to me all the time. So when I say I don't want to know the score it is proceeded by a dead serious look and the phrase "or you will die!"

I can honestly say that I have not missed a game the last two seasons. Actually I have only missed one Colts game in two seasons also, and that was because I was at a relay for life walk with my grandma who has cancer.

I have acctually become so obsessed with watching games that I look at the schedule before I plan to do something.

Nah - you have a friend with a 2-year old? Someone who wouldn't be shocked if you offered to babysit from, say, 8 in the morning until 5:30?

Pick up child. Call a family member at, say, 2 in the afternoon. Tell them how much you're looking forward to the party but a friend of yours had an absolute emergency and you have to watch his kid.

Meanwhile, show that kid the town. Do the zoo, the Children's Museum, History Museum, Art Museum, Speedway Museum - you get my drift. No time for a nap - and of course feed him/her every piece of garbage you can. Hot dogs? You betcha. Cotton Candy? Bury your face in it kid. How about 4 Mountain Dew's?

Come to party. Tell child he/she has to sit very quietly and not bother anyone.

    Wait.

Leave when the tantrum becomes too unbearable.

I love kids - if you exploit 'em the right way they come in handy in just about any situation (unless they're your own).

OK UB , First off no way in hell you'll ever get away asking people to not tell you score. I worked nights and in 1980 bought a vcr for $1000 and paid $15-$20 for tapes so I could tape and watch games. EVERY Freaking time I taped the game someone told me who won some even told key details.

Me ,I'm anal too , I will find someway to see or hear part of key game(hell virtually any Pacer game) no matter where I am. If only to periodicly sneak to the car radio if its a key game. My wife and in-laws over the years have learned to tolerate this.

That said if you can get reception on the radio a small radio with earplug may be the best solution. Good luck Uncle Buck , I know your pain.
