North Carolina was my pick to win it before the tournament started.

Freaking Oregon. UNC misses all four free throws and Oregon gives up two offensive rebounds.

how great would a South Carolina/Oregon title game have been? I guarantee you no one on the planet woulda made any money on that at the beginning of the year.

Would've preferred Gonzaga/Oregon myself out of the four left.

Yes, good, both teams were in the bonus with 13 minutes left to go in the game. We all did tune in to watch the refs, as always.

I hate seeing Carolina rewarded for their scummy tactics. Hard to feel good for them. But yeah, that game was awful.

Between this and NE, it looks like 2017 is the Year of the Cheater.

This game went down pretty much exactly how I expected it would. Schools like Gonzaga and Butler can get tantalizingly close, but not quite finish the job.

You know what would help? .... Not playing the game on Monday. Giving teams all week to prepare for their Final 4 matchup, and then just one full day to prepare for the actual championship game just seems odd. Though that is the way it's been done for as long as I know about.

That setup is going to give the more talented team an edge, even if the opposing team is better coached and more disciplined. At least to a point.

It also doesn't give an injured kid much time to heal between Saturday and Monday.

But I don't see it changing because.... money...
It's a big weekend for the host city. You have the Final Four on Saturday, festivals on Sunday, and then the championship game on Monday. So it's a tight little package. But if you tried to stretch the championship game to Wed or Thurs there'd be howls about not being able to keep fans in town that long and into a work week. If you go the other way and try and move the Final Four games to Thurs night it would be much the same argument and also TV I assume prefers the Saturday games.

I suppose if anyone really wanted to find a compromise, having the Final Four on Friday night and the championship game on Monday would add at least a day in between games. But I don't think that would happen.

And I seriously doubt anyone would go with the idea of separating the Final 4 and the championship game by an entire week. The only reason I could see this idea on the table is becau$e I could see someone calculating the dollars they might be able to milk by having a Final 4 city AND a championship city vying for the games.

But all of this is probably moot because I don't think I've even seen anyone other than myself question the wisdom of only having a day to prepare for the biggest college basketball game of the year.
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I don't watch college basketball. But thought last night why not check out the national championship game, should be the best game of the year. Nothing else to do for about an hour. I tried to watch it. I really did. That was bad - couldn't watch. Compare that game last night to game 7 last June Warriors and Cavs? I cannot comprehend why anyone would rather watch the college game.

Last night's officiating was not indicative of the normal college basketball game and it took any flow away from the game and uglied it up.
