I'm excited about this draft class, and at the 15-20 range we may actually find someone with talent. I think this would be the year to swing for the fences with potential because I just don't see us gaining significant young talent any other way unless we trade PG (and Woj just said we would not listen to any offers).
This might be the year to trade a future first and current first for the player you want or need a little higher up. Trading PG will be a step backwards unless he tells the Pacers he is not re-signing which with the new CBA is HIGHLY unlikely.

When is the last time the Pacers have traded up?

There have been a few instances where we traded for a first, but I can't ever remember us trading up during the actual draft. Tinsley? I guess we did with Tinsley now that I think about it, even then, that was a late first though.

I'm not saying that as "we'd never do that!" kinda thing, more so just curious.

Last time we did that it worked out pretty well. I'd say Myles Turner was very much a swing for the fences potential pick.

I agree it does not happen much and so much value is placed on current picks it is hard to move up.

List of free agents for next year.

Semi-realistic guys I like for the Pacers (at the right price): Hayward, Millsap, Iguodala, Redick, Amir Johnson, Patty Mills

Caleb Swanigan with 21 points and 21 rebounds after a huge game against Notre Dame. As only a sophomore and the improvement he makes each year I think he would be a good pick in the later first and would fill a real need at PF. Not even listed on any mock which is ridiculous.

I think either way, him and Turner could grow to compliment each other.

Redick would compliment this team really well, but I don't think we have a shot at Hayward.

Yeah, I don't think so either. Hence, "semi" realistic, although even that is charitable towards our chances.

I have seen a few games and Malik Monk is the player that is shining big. He has the catch and shoot, dribble pull up, and defends well. His teammate Fox is goo as well. But I like Monk on his range alone...it is Devin Booker quality.

I hope the Pacers stay away from Miles Bridges. He has Beasley written all over him. I do like OG, but think Thomas Bryant would be a great late round pick up. The only thing is that he struggles with rebounding at times....and we don't need that. I need to sit down and watch Giles and Boden some. I am not impressed with Josh Jackson. I do like VJ Beachem in the second round as a possible 3D player.

Went to Paris a few months ago, and spent a couple of nights in Le Mans (in hindsight - one night there is more than enough). Anyway, on our second night there, we found out that the local team was playing so thought we'd check it out. Matt Howard (yes, that Matt Howard) and a kid called Frank Ntilikina were coming off the bench for the opposition and combining for some pretty sweet pick and pop/roll action.

I find out later that this guy is in the Top 10 on Chad Ford's big board. Honestly, I still haven't seen any of the incoming freshmen, but I would be very surprised if any of the point guard crop had the handles and polished pick+roll game this guy showed.
The Ringer have their first draft board up - and their write-up on Ntilikina is far more nuanced, and educated, than mine. For anyone that doesn't watch much college ball, the other prospect profiles are a good read as well.

    We're getting a 2nd pick later in the 1st round? .

Lonzo Ball might become my 2nd or 3rd favorite prospect ever. He's a very, very special player.

Hahahaha...Lonzo Ball is waaayyy out of the Pacers reach. Leaf is a player you do not want to go to sleep on either.

I know I'm late to the party, but my first proper look at OG tonight - love his defensive instincts.

Swanigan just keeps on rebounding. A rebound to him is like a bone to a hungry dog.

Still not on any draft boards. I want this guy on the Pacers.

Swanigan would fill a need on Pacers: Rebounding. Could be pf of future
Being unable to close out a game in which you have a comfortable lead in the 4th Q = Pulling a Frank Vogel

He would be really good complement for Turner. He has the strength that Turner generally will not.

Peter Jok would be a nice player in the second round.

Andrew Sharp from SI's the Crossover posted his first mock draft. I know this is REALLY early, but still kinda fun to look at...

    18. Pacers: Ivan Rabb, PF, California | Sophomore

Rabb's been solid for Cal, and he'll be solid as a rotation player in the NBA, but he hasn't had the dominant year that some expected when he announced he was coming back to school. Still, as a low-ceiling, high-floor power forward option, he'd be a good option as talent begins to thin in the second half of the first round.

There's no way OG comes out this year if he's a fringe 1st round pick with injury...if he waits till next year and does well he'll be a lottery pick for sure, this draft is just too stacked for someone to take a risk like that.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

I haven't looked at a lot of players yet, but I do like Kennard from Duke. His defense will probably never be great, but he's gonna be a knock down shooter/all around glue guy offensively. Probably have a long NBA career

My early favorites right now are Swanigan, Cameron Oliver, and Terrance Ferguson.
