Cam Payne is hurt again? Man I remember so many wanted to draft him, he didn't show much last year in OKC.
He actually played pretty well down the stretch for them. Struggled in the playoffs though iirc.

Looks like CJ and Aaron are back practicing.

    http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/noteb...gs-intangibles

Article suggests though that GR3 could be used in the B unit instead of CJ. But also suggests Lavoy will be used in "some" games. If Nate is going with a 10 man rotation CJ as a stretch 4 backup 4 makes the most sense. Him with GRIII Stuckey and Brooks give us the best floor spacing from 3pt range. Overall that bench produces more offense. I think Al's size and GRIII's athleticism should be enough to rebound modestly-decent.

Maybe it was just the games that I watched, but he always played terrible when I tuned in. Id tend to watch OKC or POR on nights (or times) where the Pacers or Lakers weren't playing last season.

I think it's safe to say we made the right choice between he, Lyles and Turner.

Lance is kept by the Pelicans

Being picked over Alonzo Gee isn't a great achievement, but it's better than the alternative eh? Looks like we'll see Lance in the NBA this season.

A lot of teams have picked up injuries to guys in their top 6-7. Pacers are excluded from this depending on where you rank CJ I guess (I put him behind Big Al and Stuckey), but Pacers need to make hay with this early schedule and lots of home games.

I hope we grab him. We're one of the few good teams with cap space still left. It would be as simple as cutting Rakeem. Then offering Goodwin the room exception or the whole $4.3 mil we have left. Which would be twice as much as he was gonna make this season with the Suns. We have two shooting guards on this team (3 if you count CJ) who are all at age 30 or slightly over it. We need to get younger at that position and Goodwin or the recently released RJ Hunter provide opportunities to do so. Also it's a good prep for Stuckey and CJ leaving in free agency next Summer.

By the way, CJ's contract has an ETO (early termination option) according to Basketball Insiders. That means the team can terminate the final year of his deal and waive him in June of next year before the July 1st free agency period. Making him a full-fledged free agent. Stuckey's contract hinges on whether or not he chooses himself to opt out of his final year.

    I doubt he comes here.

For his sake, I hope he goes to SA.

A SG that can't shoot. Pacers have too many of those already.

But Thunderbird liked him in the 2013 draft.

PLAYERS WHO YOU WILL LIKELY NEED TO MOVE UP IN THE 2ND ROUND TO ACQUIRE:

    1. ARCHIE GOODWIN...Goodwin was around the 12th ranked player in his high school class and played for the Kentucky Wildcats. He measured 6'5 1/4", with a long wingspan of 6'9 1/2" measured at the NBA combine. I am super high on Goodwin and think 5 years from now he will be a top 10-15 player from this draft, but he isnt ready yet at all to contribute. Born on August 17 1994, he will turn 19 in a couple of months.

He plays HARD, and with passion. Scored 14 points a game at a high level program despite basically having no jump shot yet. His defense is already a strong point to his game and he plays with great burst and relentlessness. Has great stamina, a big time motor, and is aggressive. Already has 2 high level dribble moves: a really good Euro step and a strong right to left cross over, and has a pretty good left hand hesitation dribble that covers alot of ground.

Sadly he needs an entire rebuild of his jump shot as he dips the ball extremely low on a catch, which screws up his release point big time. I think being only 18 years old though that he can fix that with a great developmental program and if a team can wait on him, he will potentially pay off and become a strong tough minded 2 guard. The perfect 2nd round pick.....be very afraid if the Spurs select him, because they have one of the leagues best shooting coaches, which is really all he needs to fix other than gaining strength and experience.

This guy is a starting 2 guard in this league no question, but itll take 3 years to prove me right.
edit: FWIW, too bad you cannot blend Goodwin, a player who can do everything except shoot, and RJ Hunter, a player who can only shoot, together. They would make a heck of a guy to have.

Yep. Suns management lied to him just like they lied to Goran, the Morris Twins, etc.

They lied to him? How? Did they tell him he was good?

The story goes that they explained to him somewhere around Gerald Green's departure that his time was to come. They instead acquired Brandon Knight and started the two point guard nonsense again. Green left in free agency the following Summer but that didn't do anything to help Archie's situation. He never got real minutes until late last season which was a doomed season when the Suns lost a lot of games and had no hope at a playoff spot. He was being developed but never really got the shot he was promised by the coach and team management. While Archie's game certainly has problems (shooting under 30 percent from 3 land for example)... Suns management has shown on more than one occasion that they lie more than usual in that business.

They told Goran he was their franchise point guard and were gonna give him a max deal the following Summer. Then suddenly Isaiah Thomas was signed. Things got crowded and Goran demanded a trade, wound up in Miami. Then for some reason they traded Isaiah Thomas for a less skilled point guard in Brandon Knight. The Morris twins thing was another epic fail. They were told if they bypass restricted free agency and sign an extension. They'd be allowed to play out that contract on the same team. The contract was specifically drawn up that way. However before the contract was even 2 seasons old they traded Marcus to the Pistons. Markieff found out on Twitter, and between that and the lie which led to it all he became disgruntled. Now keep in mind the Marcus Morris trade was made because someone decided they had talked LaMarcus Aldridge into signing with them that Summer. Thus trading Marcus would free up money for a Max deal for LMA. Well as we all know LMA went to San Antonio instead.

Between the lies and botched attempts at upgrading the roster Suns management is a disaster. Archie however said on Twitter he thanks the organization for what they did for him up to this point. Most likely because they waived him so he can move on with his career elsewhere. Again, Archie isn't a superstar in the making I think he can be a solid 6th man for a team. Or a good starting shooting guard on a team loaded with high level talent at the other 4 positions. Thus he doesn't need to put in 20 points per game. But Suns management isn't very shrewd or smart about player personnel. They took a team which was supposed to be rebuilding to almost an 8th seed playoff berth. They then followed that up with a multitude of bad decisions which just 3 seasons later have led to a lottery team.

They released him. His trade value was zero. It isn't just the suns that don't think he's good.

They could've been asking for too much. Celtics released RJ Hunter because they couldn't trade him allegedly. I think both teams were asking for too much back. Both are young players so while the NBA sites say Boston just wanted a 2nd round pick back for RJ, who knows what they could've also asked for. If the Suns handle their trade talks like they handle player personnel they probably wanted someone to cough up a 1st for Archie and no one would bite.

They could have been asking for too much? They just gave him up for nothing, so apparently they didn't think nothing was too low a price to get rid of him...

They tried to trade him first (at his request) but couldn't find a deal they liked. So they cut Archie. This happens often though. Kevin Seraphin had asked the Wizards to trade him back in the day and they couldn't get anything done either. I'd still like us to pick up Archie though since he's young, athletic, and explosive. He's better at attacking the rim and while he isn't a great shooter neither is Demar Derozan. But like Derozan because Archie attacks the basket he would develop into one of those players who could draw fouls and get to the line. He's also speedy and fits into an up-tempo offense which is how our team is trending. He can explode to the rim at anytime and finish STRONG. We don't really have that here outside of Paul.

He's also only 22 years old so he'd be another young player we could bring in and develop. I don't believe most NBA players are hopeless and Archie certainly isn't. If we can get his shot to be more consistent he could be a great pick up. Our shooting guard core ranges between 30 and 33 years of age. They ain't getting any younger. Picking up Archie or RJ Hunter to develop for next season would be a smart move for that reason. Also they'd come cheap as Archie was gonna make just over $2 mil this season and RJ was on his rookie contract. Nothing better than finding cheap young players and developing them into useful contributors.

Kevin Seraphin isn't that good either. He's an NBA player but he's just another guy, just like Goodwin is just another guy. Neither one has any trade value. You need to be wanted to have trade value.

Ditto with RJ Hunter. He's done nothing in the NBA to make other teams value him. Obviously Boston didn't feel he was worth keeping either.

Perhaps. But At 22 years old, I still think there's work to be done.
